yesterday I got my application package back and the reason why they returned it is "Your letter of attestation does not bear the college/university seal/stamp of the issuing Canadian education institution." >:( >:(

My letter is on the letterhead of the Graduate studies and signed by the Dean of graduate studies with the exact template we can find on the CIC website. I really dont think you need a stamp on the official letterhead.

Any suggestion friends ??

when did you submit your application?

Salam20, what documents were requested from you ? did they ask you for a police certificate?
I have not received any requests yet, but I just wanted to get more info about the process of getting a police certificate from Egypt and how long does it take.

kg.jadu, informer2000, thanks for your recommendations.

What is the best visa office to send an application: cpp-o or one's home country? There is a tweet by Kenney (twitter.com/kenneyjason/status/303391883483299843) which states that all May 2013 and after FSW applications will be put behind MI-1 (I don't know whether it's still true since CIC has a new minister). Currently CPP-O takes 15 months, and Ukraine (my home country) takes 24 months. However, the visa office in Ukraine finished all MI-1 and Mi-2 applications it had, so there should not be any "backlog" application in front of mine.

P.S. I know that no one can guarantee that option "A" would be faster than option "B". How would you do if you were me? :)

As far as I know, if your highest degree is from Canada you don't need to do the ECA.

Thanks! Are you 100% sure? I have been getting some contradictory opinions from
students in my school..

beh467 was correct. I think sarsanballa too had said the same thing, and he only included the ECA for his highest education, and he already got PER. Besides, if you check Guide 7000, you'll come to know that they award you points based only on the highest credentials, and NOT the total number of educational years

You will be awarded up to 25 points for your highest completed Canadian educational credential or for your highest equivalency to a completed Canadian educational credential. You may also be eligible to receive points for certain combinations to two Canadian (or equivalent) educational credentials.

Great! That's what I thought too but a couple of people confused me.
Thanks a lot, I appreciate your help everybody. This has been a really
helpful mega-thread, now and in the past.

Do I have to submit a totally new application or I can just get my form attested and resubmit my application.
Please help me in this regard.

Thanks

did they return your full application package?
if yes, please update the required document and then send to them again, if not, I guess
you just need to update that updated form only, because you have submitted many official documents that
require much time to prepare.
This is my opinion only and please contact the CIC intake office by phone for the further confirmation.

Good day everyone,

I am new to the forum. I am a 3rd year Phd student applying under FSW after 2 yrs Phd. I am claiming TA/RA as my work experience. I have been at the university 4 yrs now, as I also did my masters there under the same supervisor. The university pays me $25000 per yr. However on my T4 it is $8000 (where only TA money is accounted for) and the rest (such as RA, scholarships, grants, etc) which is $17000 goes to the T4A form. My supervisor's reference letter will state my RA duties and mention my annual payment on $25000 so its not a problem. And he put 20 hrs of work pr week. But I am worried about the different info on the T4 and my Reference letter. Any advice?

cheers.

I am a 3rd year phd student in Canada, and going to apply under phd stream.
I am hoping that I get minimum 9 points out of 1 year work experience to reach the pass mark 67.
Since I dont have 1 year work experience in other occupations, do you think I will get those 9 points
for my Research & Teaching assitantships in Canada during the last 2 years?
Thanks for your feedback!

hi,

quick question re General Application Form: IMM 0008

Education/Occupation: Question 1: Highest level of education

I am a 3rd year PhD student but have not yet earned my PhD degree. I have a MA and BA. Is the *highest* level of education the one you have completed or have 'participated' in? I.e. should I put PhD or MA?
Thanks,

Thanks,

It would be MA in your case. Your highest educational qualification refers to the one you have completed successfully and not the one you have participated in.

Just make sure you make it clear that parts of your funding would show up on T4 and others on T4A. If possible, also include copies of your T4A forms, and try to ensure that every number checks out with whatever your supervisor or HR has written on the letters of reference.

That's how I got my PR, and I applied on February 2012. I did not include any other work experience than TA/RA (US + Canada), and I already got my PR. However, there does seem to be some conflicting information regarding on whether TA/RA is still accepted as work experience. My position is that, it is still accepted as work experience for FSWP, but not for CEC. This is, of course, if your letter of reference matches the prescribed duties and lead statement for NOC 4012.

Some CIC officers came to our school (University of Waterloo) last week, and they said TA/RA was no longer accepted, but I really doubt that it is the case (again, if anyone can show me parts of IRPR/A that states TA/RA is not accepted anymore, they are welcomed to share it with the forum; it is very explicit and clear for CEC, but not for FSWP, so I think the officers were getting it confused; again, just my opinion). We need more data on people that applied under the new rules, and none of us here has reached the stage where we can definitely confirm whether TA/RA work experience is still accepted. TA/RA definitely classifies as skill level A work experience though, so it should, in theory, be accepted, unless if anyone can point me to the part of the law that states otherwise.

Hint: it's NOT subsection 87.1(3), since it pertains only to the previous subsection (87.2), which defines how a person belongs to the Canadian Experience Class.
