TFSA is acceptable. You can transfer it to your chequing anytime.
Some part of my money was in TFSA and I received my MR. Don't worry guys.
I had all my money in TFSA. I didn't have any problem. TFSA funds are available anytime just like current account (Although you would have to make a withdraw request in person and banks take 1 or 2 days to process the request). But I would suggest to transfer everything into current account. Better safe than sorry (just my opinion)

Coincidentally, I applied with all my money on a checking accounts, purely because I don't know how the TFSA works and I didn't have time to research.

TFSA has slightly higher interest rate than your pathetic checking. Plus, you won't get tax on it :)
Schedule an appointment with your nearest bank to get them to explain to you.

Could that be why you did not get asked for bank statement history (well, and the fact you showed close to 30k), despite only showing 1 month worth of transaction history when applying?

In anticipation of all the refunds they need to do for those who got purged (applicants before 2008), CIC is hiring a refund clerk

Looks like I cannot appeal. I got the reply now that investments are not transferable and hence cannot be counted as proof of funds. They are asking me to submit a new application. I am in no mood to go through this again. Good luck guys!
Hi JBR,

How did you contact CIC? by phone or email? Thanks a lot!

Just to hear your comments:

If a portion of your funds is in your savings account and the rest in checking and you want to send the history and statement to CIC, would you transfer all to checking or leave it as is?

Please HELP

I am an international PhD student
I also did my Masters in Canada so I decided to apply under Canadian Experience and I got rejected because officer told me the RA experience was for my dissertation and therefore "not in competition with Canadian labor market".

Now I am thinking about applying under FSW PhD stream. I also had a work experience from back home 6 years ago which I unfortunately did not mention in my previous application. If I submit a new application based on this work experience and my RA/TA would that be an issue of misrepresentation? since I have not mentioned a job in my personal history. (I did this job when I was a Bachelor student so I did not leave any gaps in personal history. I simply did not include since I thought I would be irrelevant!)

Has anyone have any experience in reapplying when you claim something you haven't mentioned before?

I appreciate your responses

Thanks Guys

No, it will not affect, Ommision is not misrepresentation. You can choose to state the work experience that you wish is counted in your favour. So if you had 1 year of continuous work experience, and you are in your third year of your Phd, you can apply.

Hi there,

I also had GIC when I applied. Mine is re-deemable and I can withdraw it whenever I want. I included the statement and highlighted the word "re-deemable". I got doc request but no proof of fund request.
