Thank you guys. I have asked for ways I can appeal or amend this situation. Personally this is really really unreasonable. Why should I not invest some of my money (in canadian banks!) to get interest?!?! why the heck are they expecting students to hold all money in checking account and nothing else?!!?

Sorry to hear that and I also suggest you to appeal.
May be the reason is that they ask for money which is "available" to spend but an investment is not an available money and you have some kind of commitment to keep that money for a certain time.

Don't worry guys, savings account money is good enough. savings and checking account money is good. investment is bad. since investments mature after a fixed amount of time and only then you can withdraw the amount from bank. I think this is the logic.

Looks like I cannot appeal. I got the reply now that investments are not transferable and hence cannot be counted as proof of funds. They are asking me to submit a new application. I am in no mood to go through this again. Good luck guys!

You know, Canada is a very disappointing place. They pretend they are nice and correct and fair, but in so many cases they are not.
Some statistics for us:
So far 8 people have not been rejected in January, this counting two people that have not been in the forum since july, that I strongly believe have been rejected since they haven't communicated at all.
SEVEN people so far have been rejected, also in January. And this may not even count everyone because some people just came, say they were rejected and never give timeline, or I overlooked them.
Even saying that our sampling population is not good (almost 10% of the applicants!) this is close to 50% of rejection. Lets say that 30% only are been rejected in real life. this is still to much!

You should be able to withdraw your money at any time, with a penalty fee.

That's what I thought too but turned out it's not...I once tried to get my money out to pay my tuition, but they can't not do that because my money is "locked" until the mature date...I ended up borrowing money from friends...That's why I switched to TFSA...

Document requested: Jan 7 2013 (CV+new PCC+bank statement for 6 months)
Medical requested: Jan 19 2013
status changed to: we started processing ur application on Jan 18 2013.
medical exam date: Jan 22 2013 (The doctor said the results will be sent to Ottawa within a week)
work experience: TA/RA + other
