It is actually craigslist.com

I have not had much luck locating monthly-rentals through Craigslist, or anywhere for that matter. More likely is renting a room in a house, but even there the main tenants usually want more than a month of commitment.

You can rent short-term, furnished vacation properties, but their prices are high -- about $1500+ per month in White Rock, and about $2000 in Vancouver. Even in small Peterborough (Ontario) prices are more than $1500 per month.

It would be useful if you told us what those websites are, since the common sitee (Craigslist etc) don't help much.

Don't know about Toronto. If BC (Vancouver), I would use www.rentbc.com for short term furnished housing

Furthermore, in the summer seasons, you can always check with colleges and universities in your destination city whether they have available accomodation.

If it is Toronto that you are planning, pls check safehomestay.com. it is bit pricey (~1200), but you get a decent room with an option of attached/non attached bath plus internet connection which would be very essential to stay connected with your friends& family. If you are planning to stay alone, then it would not cost 1200 as well.

Steaky, if one wants temporary accommodations, furnished, then www.rentbc.com is not very helpful. It lists mainly one-year leases. I even emailed a property manager of one of the listings, a manager in charge of (they say) 100's of properties, and they "promised" to get back to me if they find any one-month leases. I am not holding my breath.

So, we're still waiting for a practical, useful way to find short-term accommodation in Canada.

Toby,

Avoid email companies or property managers in www.rentbc.com! Click "furnished/short term" and narrow down the listings to your preference. Individual owners are much more flexible and may provide arrangement to suit your needs. Last time when I emailed an individual landlord and asked whether I can rent for 65 days. The owner replied to me that he intend rent out the furnished apartment at monthly basis, but he can reserve the guest suite in the condominium for me to stay for the remaining days.

I often find the website very helpful for finding furnished temporary accomodation.
