Thanks floje!

bgcc, it might be best if your certificates are coming from big banks as it is more credible in the eyes of some.

humdrumdum, I hope that CIC can coordinate with the SIN guys to make ammendments para less hassle for students :D

Just a though, since wala ako co-op... can one look for one during breaks? Or is this highly improbable? :D
Hi micmic and anyone who can address my inquiry, may preference ba ang cic kun saang bank mo ideneposit yung proof of funds mo? sa case namin kasi, although we maintained savings account in BPI, Unionbank, BDO, and landbank at yung checking namin is in Metro, we opted to deposit our proof of funds sa cooperative bank. Major reason nito is yung may mga automatic debit payment sa insurance and mortgage ang accounts namin sa big banks. Easy access of withdrawal ika nga.

Plus, yung niloan namin na lot is nasa cooperative bank na rin, so we didnt mind withdrawing the amount and transfer sa big banks. May eprkto ba ito sa approval? I am disturbed. Enlighten me, please.

Hi Scorpio! Would I still need the SIN for part time? And since we are allowed during breaks, no need na for SIN? Or do we need the SIN regardless? How about if we just work in-campus?
you need your Social Insurance No. (SIN) to work, whether full time or part time, parang tong SSS No.
Changes sa CIC rules say that if you have a valid student visa, no need na for an Off Campus Work Permit:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=498&t=15

As of June 1, you will no longer need to apply for an off-campus work permit. If you have a study permit and are enrolled full-time in an academic, professional or vocational training program at a designated learning institution, you may work off campus without a work permit.

Your study permit will indicate if you are able to work off campus. If so, you are allowed to work for up to 20 hours per week while your program is in session and full-time during scheduled breaks in the academic calendar. You may work for any employer in Canada who is not on the ineligible employer list.
Also, pag in campus work, usually mga residents ang hinihire nila (so sa gym ka na lang labas ng school, micmic :D)

I have to ask her. But the rule of thumb is to always disclose -- (when asked :p)
Hindi naman yan condition for medical inadmissibility, Floje, eh, so no worries!

I don't think it really matters that much. What matters is that the funds are legit and that there is a steady flow of funds, hindi yong isang bagsakan lang.

Disclaimer: Wala pa akong visa (hehe), just trying to help with my 2 cents :D

Hi venice! Just my opinion po, as long as the bank is reputable and well established, ok na po siguro yun. Although syempre po, big banks have international credibility na din po which makes it easier for embassies to check. But it the end, as long as matagal na sa inyo nakapangalan ang account and funds, ok na po siguro yun. Baka po maging questionable pa kung biglang laki yung accounts ninyo sa ibang banks if they checked the flow of money. Noon po apply kami US visa before, tinanung kami bakit bigla nagkaroon ng malaking dollar yung isang account namin even if we didn't present that bank account :D Ang bank po na present namin is China Bank, Union Bank and Scotia Bank :)

Scorpio, thanks for the info. I also saw this over CIC :

You need a Social Insurance Number (SIN) from Service Canada to work in Canada or to receive benefits and services from government programs.

You must have one of the following conditions or remarks printed on your study permit in order to apply for a SIN for off-campus work:

May work 20 hrs per week off-campus or full-time during regular breaks if meeting criteria outlined in section 186(v) of IRPR
May accept employment on or off campus if meeting eligibility criteria as per R186(f), (v) or (w). Must cease working if no longer meeting these criteria
If your study permit does not have one of the above conditions or remarks, you must submit a request for an amendment to your study permit before you can apply for a SIN. There is no fee for this request.

So ito na ang kasagutan if cannot work ang nakalagay sa study perit natin tama ba? Goodluck sa atin lahat!

ahhh, sounds like course mismatch and your hubby's pending PR application nga ang concern ng VO.
Will it take long pa ba before your hubby's PR application is granted? I remember you said your husband applied for an OWP. Baka it might be wiser to wait for the results of that?
Ung parents nya ang may pending PR appli via sponsorship c/o his brother.
I will be re-applying online.

ah, in that case, hindi yun yung reason bakit na-deny ang application mo.
Try looking for a better course siguro when you re-apply, yung mas fit sa education mo.
Yep, sounds like a good plan na ikaw muna ang umalis

@micmic & scorpio1641:

Yep, you guys get the idea haha On the immigration end, yes you're eligible for work without a permit, but when you actually look for work, you can't get work without a SIN.

General rule when it comes to taxes (I just learned this this year lol), if you receive anything more than $500 in total for the entire tax year, you have to declare it when you file taxes (regardless of the money being local income, foreign income (technically my parents send me money so I don't receive foreign income), scholarships, honorarium, etc). Mas madali kumuha ng SIN ('cause you can get it on the day itself) and it's also more convenient for tax-purposes. I'm not sure about the ITN, alam ko mail-in application siya and you can't file taxes online with just an ITN.

Personally, I think it's the CIC who needs to fix things. Service Canada is just doing their job, weird ng CIC kasi sabi na ngang pwede walang work permit, but they still issue study permits that say di ka pwede mag-work kahit na full-time student ka haha ano ba talaga

I disagree on on-campus work though, as long as you can show the school you're just as good as local students, you should be hired. Legally entitled ka naman to work on campus, why shouldn't they hire you unless there's a better candidate diba.
