It is said that it takes around 12-18 months. However, I have seen many people in compherensive check but no one sent a message to inform that their background is completed. :(
Thanks for the information. I didn’t see anyone here mention the completion either, and I’d only heard from others that it would be finished in 13 months. However, those 13 months have already passed for me, and it’s still in progress.

AOR Septembre 2023 , my background check started in January 2024 and ended April 2025 , however my spouse's background check is still in progress since January 2024.

By any chance have you ordered the GCMS/CSIS notes? If yes, what was the timeline for status progression?

No we didn't ordered the GCMS/CSIS notes. We expected going through comprehensive security check since the day we had additional documents request snd also based on our travel histories and our mother countries.

@iranian_oinp @libertador42 In fact no one can say how exactly it is going to take. If you order CBSA notes then they have specifically define security deadline which is just a day before your AOR date. so if you received AOR on 20th Jan 2025 and your application has been selected for c-check then security due date will be 19th Jan 2026. However, these dates are just a dummy dates. I am personally monitoring 70+ cases and in most of the cases it is taking 15+ months .. and 10% hardly cases has received decision within 10 months. This is applicant luck, officer who is working on it and many other factors.

@SRHM if IRCC is requesting additional documents after PAL, then everytime it does not mean that it will go to c-check. The best way is to know just check your tracker and if you can see message below, it means it has gone for c-check.

Activity status updated: Background verification status has been updated to In progress

About the processing time, can you please explain if you mean 15+ months from AOR date or from the beginning of the c-check, and on the basis of your experience with cases you're monitoring, what if the percentage of the cases that their c-check is done around 15 months, and if there is a lot of cases that takes more than 15 months for the c-check. Thanks for your understanding.

15 months since your application has gone to security check. This is not AR or AOR date, this is when your application picked up or assigned to CBSA or CSIS for c-check.

I'm inland. Do you know any recent update that people finished long background checks?
Yes, there is no certainty and pattern. I can see people are getting positive decision in 6/7 months and few of them are stuck since more than 2 years. So its like once you stuck in this phase you can't do anything and just have to wait. Or max you can try connecting with lawyer for mandamus. I can see many has gone through that.

Thanks for your insights, based on your experience, do you think that there is a good chance for mandamus to be accepted for outland applicants who spent 2+ years in c-check

I talked with a lawyer. They said they've been having good success rate with mandamus. Usually it kicks off the process that's hanging in there.
