a question about the police certificate

this is regarding application for inland spousal sponsorship, and submitting the police certificate. when i applied for a study permit 3 years ago, i also submitted a police certificate. i have kept the original certificate and have brought it with me to canada.

for this spousal application, is that police certificate (from 3 years ago) acceptable? because since then, i haven't returned back to my home country. or do i need to re-apply for a recent police certificate?

I guess it depends of your country of origin. In my case, my police certificates are eletronic ( via internet) and they are valid just for 3 months.
You can call CIC to confirm with them but in my opinion if it is possible and easy to you to get a new one, I would do it.
Good luck!

even though the country of residence may consider a police record to be valid for longer, in regards to sponsorhip applications, CIC only considers them to be valid for 3 months. So they must be submitted within 3 months of getting it, or a new one most likely will be requested.

thanks. i checked the the cic website on police certificate for clarification. Here it is: The certificate must be issued no more than three months before you apply.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/intro.asp

which means that everything else needs to be completed, and that the police certificate is the last step, given the short timeframe.

to clarify your point, the police certificate must be submitted with your application, or else the application will be considered incomplete. Missisauga must receive the record within 3 months. It will be valid during the entire PR process, so when you refer to "last step", that is the last step of compiling the application, not the entire process.

i can not answer that question for you. you would need to contact the approved panel doctors listed on the CIC website, and ask them what their wait time is. every office has different schedules. when you go, your doctor will give you an "e medical" reciept that has your information, picture and barcode for CIC. The doctor will be entering information into a computer to process this paperwork. before you pay for the exam, make sure to confirm that office supplies the "e medical" receipt. there are posts from people who have not received it, as the office they went to was not up to date on how the system works.

Also make sure you have the xray done and the blood work done. This may not all be done in the same building . Most of the panel doctors seems to take only cash to make sure to ask . Also ask them if they are going to take the photo or do you have to provide one . Id required e.g passport .
