Just an observation. It does look like with the "expression of interest" it is a very simple process. So people just sign up without even knowing if they qualify to sponsor their parents.

So with CIC choosing 10,000 from the lottery, there might be a more sizable number that DO NOT meet the requirements. In previous years you sent in an actual application.

Right now quite a few who have been invited to apply are asking questions whether they can or cannot sponsor their parents.

This is probably CIC's mistake in assuming that an expression of interest to apply means that all are eligible to apply. Will CIC conduct a supplementary draw if they find that they do not get 10,000 valid eligible applications?

Or will the number increase for the following year?

I am amazed by the number of people questioning about requirements after getting selected. I would say it is a huge blunder by CIC by not giving clear eligibility requirement before anyone can sign up.

I absolutely agree.

^Nope, even the west coast is delayed :-X :-X :-X

In Calgary here, waiting for the email.

I still have no email as well. Judging by the forum, they have already sent lucky emails in 2 bulks: in the early morning and half an hour ago. Hoping there is more. So nervous :-X
I`m in Alberta, by the way. Not sure if it affects anything.

I would guess no and no.

Would expect just the 1 submission round this year, and same 10K cap next year with hopefully a better lottery process to weed out those not qualified from the start.

Any apps less than 10K this year, would just serve to help reduce the still existing backlog.
