On Wednesday, April 1, is the first wave of migrant workers to be affected by the new rule requiring low-skilled workers to leave after four years in Canada. People in service, retail, caregiving, manufacturing, agriculture and similar jobs are not able to immigrate to Canada permanently.

For workers under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program who came on or before April 1st 2011, this is the end for them. The four-year cap on migrant workers is to strengthen the temporary nature of the program, but in fact the jobs that the workers are doing are permanent jobs. Aside from thousands being sent home, advocates were afraid that more will be undocumented, work in the underground economy and be more vulnerable than they are now.

“These workers are not rags that can be used and disposed of when not needed anymore,” says Clarizze Truscott the spokesperson of the Temporary Foreign Worker Support Coalition. “These workers are people that contributes to our economy and social life in Alberta, as Canadians its our responsibility to care for them” she added.

One of the many casualties of the Temporary Foreign Worker Program is Maria Victoria Venancio, the quadriplegic temporary foreign worker that was hit by a vehicle going to work. Now she lost her status and waiting for her removal order.

“All workers must be treated fairly regardless of their status,” Said Dhon Mojica of Migrante Alberta and a temporary foreign worker. “We all help this economy and country,” he added.

Many migrant advocates in different cities are mobilizing on the 31st and the 1st of April to demand for full immigration status for migrant workers especially those who are already here in Canada. It will continue even after April 1st.

My Friend and I applied for AINP on May 22, 2014, both received AOR on June 16, and file# August 20, 2014. My permit expires April 1, 2015 and my friend's expires on April 15, 2015. I received my nomination on March 20, and my friend received an email from AINP office for copies of his T4 and pay stubs from the last 2 months on March 26. We hope that he will receive his nomination in the mail sometime this week. The AINP office has been very busy, I think, as they have to deal with thousands of applications and sort out which applicant’s visa is due to expire first and which applicant will be issued the one year bridging work permit, as negotiated between CIC and Alberta.

It is GREAT that your agent applied for the WP extension for you so you can work legally under implied status. Maybe you could call the AINP office on April 2 (one day past the deadline) to see what is the status of your application and also to notify them that you have applied for work permit extension and therefore working legally; otherwise they might have placed your AINP application aside, assuming that they do not have to deal with it anymore since your permit had already expired. Meanwhile, it is best to wait for the LMIA approval before applying to Express Entry as it will give you the points you need.

No worry. You are working legally and that is the main thing. You’ll have the fighting chance as long as you are still here.

First of all, please accept my heartfelt congrats for receiving ur AOR. I AM REALLY HAPPY FOR U nd ur friend.

Thanx for passing vital information nd ,more so,a consolatory note. I feel,relieved nd enormously obliged for ur valuable suggestion.

one thing that is I am not sure of is whether I could directly contact AINP office as i have an authorized agent /consultant to act on my behalf. Still,i would give a shot at it. If it works, it is fine otherwise I have to wait for any information from my consultant in regard to status of my application.

Hi everyone..... I applied for pnp through strategic recruitment ( post graduate). Now I am waiting for my nomination. I have one doubt regarding the employer and NOC. If I received my pnp, then I will gonna apply for PR and it will take one year. During my pr processing time I need to stick with my employer and noc, or i am able to change both employer and noc..?

Hi Sooraj congrats for your ainp. I too have applied under SRS-Post grad worker stream on June 9, 2014 and waiting for the decision from Ainp. Can u please share your timeline. Also did ainp called your employer to confirm if u r still working

Hi jaffaral... Still am waiting my pnp nomination..hopefully i will get within next 6 months. My concern is that it is very difficult to work under same employer for a long tome. My friend told me that as I am applied through strategic recruitment I can change my employer and job category during my PR processing. I need to confirm this information. So please help me . Hi Sooraj. Did not read your post properly. As for your question, after I applied for my ainp and 20 days later I got fired from there so you have to wait till I get a decision from ainp. I have not informed ainp. If I here anything before May 19, 2015 I will let you know because my work permit is expiring that date. So just hang tight.

I think AINP is coming up changes too soon after april 1st. may be sometimes this week.
Atleast BC PNP taking care of people who have already applied by using FIFO. here in alberta everybody is in limbo no matter when u applied.
