Am I in the super super long security check?

I just checked the IRCC tracker and saw all of the biometrics, medical exam, and eligibility are Completed, but background verification is 'In Process'.
Then I check the F12 console and get Security actStatus = 17
Does this mean I'm under that very very long security screening, which can take months to years?

About my background.
BC PNP Inland
Chinese
Canadian University - Computer Science
All work histories are in Canada
No travel history in other countries

I understand my major is sensitive, and has a higher chance of being 'selected'.
Does this happen to everyone or just me the 'lucky' guy?

In my console , there is nothing about security/ actstatus. Does it mean my background check has not been started?

Yes. I contacted my local MP. All they were able to confirm is that the background check was being done by CBSA not IRCC. There's no communication on that end at all. Just waiting

Mine was >9 months. Nothing you can do. Even MP didn't help. Probably the application is being screened by CSIS or CBSA. They have no deadlines or communication.

I see many updates in tracker but there is no result yet

Hi. We almost have the same background. I'm also Chinese, cs student, studied in both Canada and China (business major in non-sensitive school), no work experience in China and no travel experiences. My security check started in Dec, 2023. I'm also very anxious.

Guess what I'm still in check. I have filed an application for judicial review against IRCC and they're still ignoring me. The system is screwed.

I did the same thing and coulnd’t find security, does that mean it hasn’t started yet ?

My security check was initiated in 2022 and my application was approved in 2024. Chinese is red flag for some agency in Canada. Luckily, my case was approved. My signature shows more details.

I'm a Canadian citizen and my wife in Chinese, we have been married for 8 years living in the US and Dubai and now I decided to move back to Canada but my wife can't get in the country because she's been put into this insane security check for some reason. We also have 2 Canadian citizen children aged 3 and 6. My wife had to move back to China with our 3 year old and I'm in Canada with my 6 year old. I can't believe we are facing a multi year wait! My wife hasn't even lived in China for 10 years, has no degree and has been a housewife for the last 10 years. I don't get it.
