Hello Guys I’m currently applying for my SP to go to college in Toronto. I’ve read all messages and I feel relieved about I have big chances to get approval. Does anyone know the real cost of ART in Canada? My regime is 3Drugs regime (Tenofovir disoproxil/Efavirenz/emtricitabine) and I would like know in case I would have to pay by myself. Also does anyone know for how many months can I bring with me when I travel to Canada?
Thanks for your kind support and reply.
I quoted today the price at village pharmacy in toronto, they sell arvs with discount and should be 900 for dovato (dolutegravir +lamivudine).

You can take 3 months with you and ask someone to ship to you through mail loads of 3 months.

Ive been reviewing some of the policies of health insurance for international students, and none of them state paying medications or medications for pre existing conditions.
If anyone knows a college in Ontario that covers, that would be a valued information.

I've checked at cover.me, blue cross, Manulife policies.

Hi Guys, I am young man who got positive in hiv as young as 23 yrs old, I know that this got to me at an earlier stage but I know my life wont stop here. I dream to study in canada thats i applied for student visa. I already paid 100,000 in peso just for applying a visa in a visa center and figure out that I may get denied because of medical exam. i dont want to disaapoint my family because we invested a big amount of money. Right now Im still waiting for my ITA and i cant help myself to get worried. Im just a young man who wish to have a brighter future despite of my condition. If anyone had the same issue with me and got approved please help me to understand.

Did you really read what I wrote above? You can only take 3 months of treatment in your luggage. And later ask someone ship parcels of 3 months of treatment from your home country.

Visitors to Canada
Visitors entering Canada may bring a personal quantity of a prescription drug for their own use or for the use of a person or animal under their care and with whom they are travelling.

Visitors staying in Canada for more than three months may bring into Canada an additional 90-day supply of a health product every three months for their own personal use by mail or courier.

Visitors to Canada must be ready to provide evidence of their visitor status. Evidence includes documents such as:

  • a copy of your passport
  • student or work visa, or
  • letter from an employer or university
As a visitor, if the drug is mailed to you, you are encouraged to include a copy of any of the above documentation in the package and indicate on the outside of the shipping package that it is destined to a visitor in Canada.

Are there shipping or packaging requirements?
Health products you bring into Canada for personal use must either:

  • be in the package dispensed by the hospital or pharmacy
  • be in the original retail package, or
  • have the original label attached to it (the label must clearly say what the health product is and what it contains)

Ow sorry thought you are in Phil. Do you have updates in your application?
Please write in English All the time, a lot of people are looking for the same information as you, and everything shared would be relevant. English will make it easier for everyone.

Hi Gusmcr

Yes i have read your message . But some other forums said that you can bring 1 year supply of medicine as long as you have the prescription of the doctor. That's why i am asking if it possible

Thank you

Do you have the source of this information?

I contacted PWA once, a hiv foundation from Toronto. They told me the the same about the 3 months supply.

I think only people applying for university (that has a bigger coverage) or colleges from Quebec, British Columbia, Alberta, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, new Brunswick and Prince Edward that offers universal coverage of antiretrovirals for all of their residents living with HIV have good chances of study visa approval.

Unless I see in this forum someone declaring they were approved for another province, I will remain thinking this way. So far, I didn't see anyone approved for Ontario here that's the destination of most of foreign students.
