Contacted MP office last week. MP agent called IRCC and IRCC agent said 'once wait time passed the 24 months mark we will not be able to give any estimate'. Seems to me that IRCC is freewheeling in giving answers.

Still in the "application received" phase... no in process for sponsor even. Application was received June 25 2019.
What's the link for the spreadsheet again? TIA

I also heard back from my local MP's office. They said "I spoke with the IRCC regarding your case. I understand that you have been waiting 18 months. They assured me that your parents’ case is still processing and moving forward. You can expect to hear back in the 20-24 month time frame, although there may be slight delays in processing due to COVID 19."
Not even a sponsor approval or even in process for sponsor approval...

Seems like they've finally decided to process June 2019 stuck files, hoping this doesn't stop abruptly, like it did.

There are a variety of factors involved. It isn’t possible to give firm answers.

I understand that once processing started it is contingent on circumstances.
But for cases that are simply held up in their inventory without even starting to be processed, saying that waiting for more than 24 months will lead to more/indefinite waiting, is outrageous. That is what IRCC was saying.

Sponsoring parents and grandparents usually has no benefit to Canada and if anything is a very costly program so it is a low priority program compared to approving things like skilled immigrants or even reuniting spouses and their dependent children. Published estimated processing times were already up to 24 months. Depending on where your application was being processed you may have been affected by shutdowns in Canada but then in other countries like for example the UK. If your case is being processed in South East Asia or requires contacting South East Asia there may be delays. The situation is so fluid it is impossible to predict what will be all the processing barriers in advance. Contacting other departments in Canada could be taking longer because processing things like benefits in this time of need would take precedence over checking to see if applicants have received social assistance in the past. There seems to be a backlog when it comes to verifying medicals, determining if additional tests are needed and determing if someone is medically inadmissible. Perhaps the doctor is now working in a role associated with covid temporarily because there is such a need. When it comes to making contact with other countries they may also be prioritizing covid issues. Although frustrating sponsoring parents with access to healthcare is still a huge privilege that most countries do not offer. I am sure many others who didn’t get selected would be happy to wait knowing they are in the sponsorship process even if it takes longer. Everyone in Canada has experienced delays due to covid and the frustration of not being able to get a firm answer about how long they will need to wait. For example many are waiting for surgery, a procedure/test or even just a specialist appointment. They are also being told they don’t know, it’s a fluid situation and that everyone is trying their best. When you say that there has been no processing on your PGP file. Have you received AOR? Have you received a biometric or medical request?

Hi, my parents did it on April 23, uploaded on the same day, and it got passed on May 7. Exactly 2 weeks.

I found out from the call center that the case stopped after sponsor's criminology check was done. It has since been labelled as 'inventory case' and no one has touched it till now.

All you listed are fair points. I recognize that immigration is a privilege, not a right. But in relative terms, my case is being handled at a excessively slow pace as compared to peer applications. The spreadsheet in this website shows that only about 10% of the 800+ cases collected here are as slow as mine, and 800+ is a decent sample size to infer from. The frustration stems from such disparity and the total lack of transparency.

Have they done biometric? Medical? Although a decent sample size each case is not the same so unless you are comparing parents from the same countries it is tough to compare PGP applications.

No, haven't got request for biometric or medical, because the case has not reached the 'In Process' phase yet.

Half a year ago is not a huge difference when you're looking at around 1.5 years to start processing. I would be more concerned if one application had started being processed in 2019 and the other one hadn't started processing. They have taken some steps to prevent extra time and expense like asking for a medical right away which will expire and need to be repeated at least once if not twice.

Did you send the PCC in the beginning of application?

Yes i sent them last year in feb 2020 without their request.

I agree with you 100%. My timeline is almost exact same other than my application being received on the 19th. We have not been evaluated as sponsors at all. This is completely unacceptable given that all of the fees have been PAID but yet no service rendered. In what industry would this even be remotely acceptable?
