I had a question - For eg: An individual is working in India and simultaneously planning to move to Canada. Anybody went through a scenario wherein an individual coming to Canada taking an option of work from home flexibility from existing firm and thereby searching Job in Canada? Is this possible and if not what issues could we foresee? Thanks.

Well currently of course due to COVID you cannot visit Canada until further notice.

Others can comment as well but If you could visit Canada then as long as your employer in India has no Canadian presence or clients then sure in theory you could work remotely even as a visitor. Of course you are assuming that CBSA at the POE authorise your visit for more than a few weeks if there is any suspicion about your work as a visitor. The default authorised for visitors is up to 6 months but this can be affected by how satisfied an officer is on how someone is funding their visit, not usually an issue when someone is visiting relatives or friends in Canada.

Also it is not of course easy to find a job offer whilst on a visit unless you have very specific skills an employer is willing to wait around for. With COVID the expectation is that the employment market will become challenging for some while.

it’s not likely you’ll be able to secure a job on a visitor’s visa. employers in canada tend to favour people already legally allowed to work there, so that is going to be working against you.

furthermore, as someone has pointed out above, you have to also find out if it’s even legal to work in canada on a visitor’s visa, even if you’re technically working remotely for a foreign company. it’s not as clear-cut as only being physically present in canada while you take a salary and pay taxes to another government.

Thanks for providing insights it is helpful.
Plan was to take PR, come to Canada with existing job in hand and find out opportunity in Canada. Once a job opportunity has been identified/ received, leave the existing job and move to Canada permanently.

That's do-able but dependent on how long the current organisation would allow you to work remotely? Secure your PR first and simultaneously explore if your current organisation will consider the option.
