IRCC has got the logic wrong in relation to the virus, the cases are breaking records every day and this is not a seasonal virus, its rebounding in many countries, who thought they had it under control, the more IRCC delays in issuing extension the more the chances that people who come later will be infected , especial from countries like Brazil, South Asia and African continent , which forms bulk of the immigrants !! IRCC should simply allow all expired COPR enter ASAP and halt further new applications till Vaccine is found !!!

I am in the exact same position. COPR expiring 25 Aug. My family and I are currently in Singapore and flights are available but it does'nt make sense to go just to comply with the COPR date. Our plan is also to wait for a few months to let things settle down, try to get an internal work transfer and then move.
Soft landings seem risky now given a clear direction from the Canada government not to come to just complete your applications. Its prudent to keep things as they are now and not take any undue risks with your job and health.
Looks like a good move if you still have your job.

Hi just sharing my experience which took place 2 hours ago, I had a round trip ticket, and I was denied to board the plane cuz airline has to call CBSA for each foreign passengers. I am guess it’s the round trip ticket that caused the denial to board. I am rather annoyed, cuz yes soft landing is an option for me but I am also thinking to settle at the same time hence my ticket is an open year round ticket (considering it is also cheaper). The airline was asking if I have any lease agreement of job offer... which I don’t have and almost impossible to have while I have not landed.
Sorry to hear that. Where were you flying from?

HI Batina,Im exactly in the same position. Please do share any updates or news thtat you may have
I sure will. I'm in the same position as you and probably will request an extension. As the post above yours shows - someone was refused boarding because he had a round-trip ticket, so they probably have contacted the airlines to screen passengers for 'soft-landings'.

Yeah I think the round trip ticket is what ticks CBSA, but logically its a year round open ticket and I do plan to visit my parents at some point especially during the lunar new year period of time.

And yes, airlines are required to check with CBSA before they issue a boarding pass.
I just got my round trip ticket refunded and gonna book a one way ticket instead and give it another go before my COPR expires.

There isn't a clear rule for us, unlike other passengers who are students. They are allowed to travel with school letter stating that the school is starting terms. It just makes it harder for us because we don't really have anything formal other than our COPR.

Agreed. And since the situation is fluid, CBSA might update instructions for the screening of passengers at port of exit since its easier to refuse people then versus when they are finally at the Canadian border. So in the coming weeks, those flying might be required to submit additional proof of their intent to settle permanently. Judging by a few posts by people who successfully landed, people weren't being questioned as much at the port of exit previously so it looks like things are changing to accommodate the law against soft-landings.

Good luck - hope you're able to get onboard and have a safe journey.

They made Quarantine Act. What if they make another Act which might go against the soft landers? They are changing the guidelines more often as situation evolves. Not trying to scare anyone but putting this upfront for discussion.
This could be possible but how will they differentiate between permanent settlement and soft landing? There may be a case when someone has to fly back to his/her home country becasue of some emergency.

Raise webform seeking for extension and mention your reason for your inability to travel now.
Are you sure about raising a webform unless it's 'Ready to travel'?

Approved permanent resident applicants with expired or expiring documents
If you’re outside Canada
If we already approved your permanent resident application, but you can't travel to Canada before your documents expire, or your documents have already expired, don’t contact us until you’re ready to travel to Canada.

When you’re ready to travel to Canada
Use the Web form to let us know when, and the reason(s) why. The next steps will depend on your situation.
