Not for the sake of being a proof of immigration.
Complete nonsense, a COPR can't expire.

Are you in Toronto?
He is saying that he needs two forms of ID for the newcomer program. To verify my immigration status and use a document as an ID, he is saying that whatever immigration document he uses needs to have a valid expiration date on it. So, he is looking at my COPR and saying that it is expired and he can’t use it. This is weird. So, I can’t also use the COPR to get a SIN number? In other words, I need to get the PR card to do anything..

Regarding New PR Cards. I put an urgent processing request through the IRCC website, as I need to get back to my home country due to a death in the family and another family member having undergone a serious operation.

The response I received from IRCC today was the following:

"When you become a permanent resident, you receive your permanent resident card (PR card) by mail after you give your Canadian address to IRCC.

Because of the importance of obtaining your first PR card, the process is already considered urgent. Therefore, there is no additional urgent procedure for new permanent residents"

I then called IRCC to clarify this, as a pervious agent told me to apply for urgent processing. The agent I spoke to informed me that for new PR cards processing, you cannot submit urgent requests.......however, you can if you have applied to renew your card. I explained that I thought this was ridiculous...timeline for both cards is roughly the same 120/130 days.

Basically, the agent told me that there was nothing I can do but wait. He couldn't provide any further information. There is always a PRTD, however he said the processing time of these are unknown, which doesn't help as I have to get back to Canada within a certain timeframe for my job etc.

The process is a mess.

Interestingly I got an email saying "We updated your application status" but application status still shows submitted.
Is this 2nd ghost update? I had one yesterday where application status "Updated"

Any comments on this?
