I received the exact same email (from my first Webform inquiry) with the same wording and criteria link. I was expecting a generic "We are processing or reviewing your application" reponse, so I was quite stunned by a rejection as you may have been too!

I'm an October 30 applicant with a December 24 AOR.

Just a thought here: I wonder if they're not approving/or paring back on OWP approvals due to the COVID-19 situation? Reason being that if so many of their own citizens and PRs are now applying for EI (Employment Insurance), they don't want to add more workers into the already overwhelmed pool? The OWP with Inland PR application is in a test phase, which the government can change or rescind at any time. Would just be nice to have a reason explaining the rejection.

Thanks for reading and will keep you updated on any additional correspondence from IRCC. Stay safe!
I see your point but Nov applicants keep receiving work permits, several people got theirs yesterday. In my particular case I'm a software developer, which is a job in high demand in Quebec and most of the people in IT are keeping their jobs during this crisis as is a job that can be easily done remotely. So even when you have a valid point, I don't think that's the real reason. Just out of curiosity, what was the name of the agent who sent replied to you? mine was Yann, agent 4719.

My husband's OWP was just approved! He didn't get the email, he just logged in to the IRCC account and saw that it is approved as of today. We applied on Nov 25
same here application received Nov 25 and AOR on Jan 25. just curious to know 1 thing, did he have a visitor status when you received the OWP or he had implied status? like was it more than 6 months after landing in Canada or less?

No. I rang to enquire 10 days ago and they said the officer made a note on the file, stating I would need to wait for AIP. The IRCC call centre suggested I write a Case Enquiry stating I was in the country with valid status.

I flew into the country and these days they don't stamp your passport so I don't have any proof I had valid status which is annoying. Whats more annoying is that the IRCC cant access the CBSA's information.
You should have attached boarding pass.

6 months after the landing just expired in late March, but we applied for the extension before the expiry so he had implied status when we got the decision on OWP

Hi November applicants! I'm a late October Inland PR & OWP applicant and have been poking around your message board after conversing with @BB802. Just wanted to let you know I'm in the same OWP boat as all of you. I don't know when they started the "No stamp, no approval" rule, or whatever it is IRCC is up to, but I feel your pain. Seemingly, a lot of my fellow October applicants received their OWP approvals in late-January or early-February, save for a few of us that I'm aware of, so this may be a new procedure that was instituted around that time?

I mailed my PR & OWP applications one week after re-entering Canada, so I was definitely in status, but everything was automated and I while I did speak very briefly to a Border Agent, my passport was not stamped upon entry.

Does anyone know how to prove to IRCC that we were in status, or has anyone tried disputing the OWP rejection? Thanks!

Hi, I'm in the same situation, how do you make a Case Inquiry? Did they tell you?

I had the stamp of my passport and they said the same to me. I'm about to think there's someone making that mistake around... If anyone can get a response from CIC about this :OWP not processing despite of the valid status" please update the rest of all.
We already sent two forms requesting an explanation and pointing out I was in status when we applied. No response yet.

Hi, same here. I wrote IRCC via form 2 days ago and yesterday they responded "We verified the information on file. However, it has been determined that you do not meet the eligibility criteria." With a link to the list of criteria. I meet everything: I had valid visitor status when I applied, I had the stamp in my passport and everything! I wrote again via form an let's just see if they want to give me a different reason now. Please keep us posted if they reply to you.

Application received: Dec 9/2019
AOR: Feb 6/2019
Like I mentioned before, every time I call IRCC or send a webform they give different answers and the webforms clearly look like different "cut and paste" responses pasted together. Once when I rang them, they said to me the same thing about "not meeting the eligibility criteria" but she said it was the eligibility criteria for "quick" OWP approval, not eligibility criteria for the OWP in general. In other words, I didn't qualify to get the OWP within the 4-5month speedy window, but the application is still in and will get processed after AIP. Is this what you mean, or did you get an official email/letter saying the OWP has been denied?

Jumping in here...I wasn't aware of the different "quick" vs. "general" OWP approval processes (knowing there were 2 tracts would have been helpful upon applying), but I received the message stating that my application, while not being approved at this time due to not meeting the eligibility criteria, was still valid and would be revisited upon receiving AIP.

What's frustrating is that AIP is close to the end of the whole PR process, so not sure how much use an OWP at the time of AIP is going to be. Better than nothing, but would have been nice to be working towards the beginning of the process, rather than the end.

Agree. Hey, Last week, I filled out an online form to request the notes of my file. Did you know that you can do that? Freedom of information act, we're allowed to request all of the notes that have been made on our file from the officer responsible for the application. It takes a month to get though, but it would be interesting to see what they have written down for why we didn't meet the eligibility. Sorry I can't remember where to go to request the notes but search in this forum "Request GCSM notes" and there's a thread on how to do it.

Thank you! I did request records to prove my last entry date into Canada and legal status as a visitor, but have not received a response on that yet. That too has a 30-day turnaround. Hoping to use that as proof of status if IRCC tells me my OWP is rejected because of that reason.

Sponsor is Canadian citizen by birth. Sponsor not working as we just moved back to Canada before applying but EXTENSIVE financial proof of support was given. Been married 3 years. Applicant from UK with no criminal background. Applicant within valid visitors status when applied.
