Hello and happy new year! Not too sure what my best course of action is.

In April 2020, I'll have fulfilled my RO and be eligible to renew my PR. I'll need to travel to the US for a 3 month internship in late May/early June. I don't think there's enough time to get the renewed PR in hand before I leave, especially since I'll be applying for renewal with JUST enough time to meet the RO. Do you guys think I should wait til early May to apply so I have some padding and do an urgent renewal?

Lets say I don't have the new PR when I leave (but I'll have met my RO). What are my options for coming back? Coming back by driving is an option for me. Many say I need my passport and COPR, but I have no idea where my COPR is since I became PR a long time ago. According to this thread, the guy just came back with his expired PR card and it was fine. What other documents should I have with me if I do decide to come back by land?

Will you continue to meet your RO once you leave for the 3 months?

Are you aware that it is a running total after the first 5 years so on any day you must show that you have lived in Canada for 2 out of 5 years.
Yup, my 2 years is pretty much a continuous chunk so leaving for 3 months doesn't ruin the RO

No guarantee you will get an urgent renewal but if you can’t get your PR card your options are PRTD or driving and crossing the border.
