Well my friend I shared my experiences applying for the Permanent residence , so I got my PR CARD after christmas , I was so happy to flight out of Canada for the first time after go through refugee process , permanent residence application .

So to plan my Vacation , first I call the Ecuador’s Embassy to ask if they accept Canadian travel document for Refugee , they told me YES.

So I book my trip to Guayaquil , the day at the airport the airline took my Canadian Travel Document no problem , went through security boarded the plane , so I arrived to Guayaquil Ecuador , went to inmigration , the took the Travel Document , they checked almost for 3 minutes , after an quick question the let me in .

In the way back it was a little bit different , they checked a lot the travel document , asking to supervisor if this an valid document blah blah , finally I did the check in , went through security again , so when they ask for the boarding , they were checking passport again , so the person ask to another supervisor if this a valid one . Boarding not problem

Arriving to Toronto person , I was flying on first class on my way back , so 10 officer waiting at the door for each passenger , so I give my travel document for refugee automatically she asked me for my PR CARD , so I have to check my wallet for it , so I give her , she asked me if I went to my country ( my original country where I apply for refugee ) I said NO.

So I continue walking to go to inmigration , I did inmigration through the machine , we scan passport , and my PR CARD , so at the exit to go for the luggages the agent told me to go to inmigration , we went to inmigration , she check my travel document , so she send me to another part inmigration , which is like a secondary interview , I saw that they will asking a lot of question to all the people that went there , so in my turn , she asked for all the passport , I went in the trip with 2 Canadian friend , so she took the passport and my travel document , she asked how we meet , so I told her . She check only my travel document and stamp only my travel document , so we walk to get our luggages , In our way to the exit we were stop for 3 very polite agent ( they attitude is very different than the other ) very polite is asked me if I went to inmigration to stamp my Travel Document , I said Yes , he said Thank you very much guys have a good day ..

So that was my story that how it was my first trip out of Canada , I was so nervous , so concern thinking if my Travel Document is valid going out . So I hope the my post is gonna help all those refugee that is waiting to make their first trip out of Canada , everything is gonna be ok , in order to avoid problems with inmigration please don’t bring with you any Identification from your original country .

Hi All,

I have had RTD before getting my PR and now it is about to expire.

Has anyone renewed their RTD with pr card and received a RTD for 5 years and not a certificate of identity?

How can I make sure to get an RTD and not a certificate of my indentity. My home country passport has expired, so I will be mentioning that in my application and submitting evidence (copy of the passport and its expiry date)

Thank you for your help

Good Afternoon everyone

my travel documents will expire November 2019
and I want to apply for the US visa ..

because I have plan to go to Philladelphia on July ... as you know I will need a valid document for more than 6 months before expired.

so my Question is , as a Canadian Permanent Resident :

Do I have to apply for the Permanent travel document?

or should apply for the Regular Travel Documents?

after that I will have to apply for the US visa .

I goy the link of the Permanet Travel Document

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/application-forms-guides/guide-5529-applying-permanent-resident-travel-document.html#pay-fee

just I would like to read your experience!

thanks!!

Hi Alberto,

The permanent resident travel document is for permanent residents who don't have their permanent cards with them when outside of Canada (either they lost it or forgot it in Canada). So, the Canadian embassy in the country they are at will issue them a permanent resident travel document to allow them to re-enter Canada (it's only valid for one journey I believe it's a legals size paper anyways). As for yourself, as a protected person with permanent resident status you are still entitled for a refugee travel document (not a certificate of identity) and as a matter of fact, if you happen to lose or forget your permanent resident card, your valid Canadian Refugee Travel Document will still grant you entry to Canada (so you'll never have to apply for a permanent resident travel document as long as your RTD is valid when outside Canada).
When you renew your RTD, as a PR the validity of the new document will be 5 years instead of the 2 years given to protected person with no pr status. Once you get your new RTD you can apply for a US visa as usual.

Cheers!

Hi guys,

I'm refugee and I got my PR finally yesterday, I crossed illegally to Canada from USA, I had a valid visitor visa to US that time.
My question : I want to apply for USA visa, using my RTD & PR.
Is there anyone have a same experience?
Do I have chance to get a visa?

Hi there! I'm not really sure as I haven't through this circumstance but I'll share with you what I know.
I've heard of people who crossed illegally being refused a US visa just for the fact that they crossed illegally.
I've also heard of people who crossed illegally and they were still able to get approved for a US visa.

You might face questions that you need to be ready for and have answers for, like:

Why did you leave the US and cross illegally into Canada?
Why do you want to come back and visit?
What will you be doing there?

etc...

Good Luck!
