Hi sstarrgazerr,

What happened? I had a similar scenario. I have a flight From Kiev to Toronto and Toronto to St. John's and I don't want to do the immigration process in Toronto. Did you do it in your final destination?
(I have 2.5 hours between Toronto and St. John's flights)
It's not your or anyone's choice where to do the landing formalities. When you first land in Canada you will have to do your pr landing at your Port of Entry just like when you visit any country you go through immigration and show your docs here you will be doing the same . BTW you should have kept more time gap between 2 flights as Landing formalities might take 1.5 to 2 hrs depending on the queue.
All the best

Hello friend... 1 question - Why you do not want to do your immigration process in Toronto. AFAIK, this is top immigration destination.
Hello Manu, I thought 2.5 hours is not enough, you know. It doesn't matter anymore because I am going to change my ticketed flight. I will do it in Toronto :)

I opened an RBC account last month which also goes free for 12 months. I am now thinking of opening a Tangerine account which is always free. Do you have any experience with them ?
Hi! No experience with them but i'm happy enough to stay with RBC

Hi everyone, I had a question regarding luggage. Once we land at the first port of entry, say Toronto for example and finish all the landing formalities there, do we have to take our luggage out and go through customs before the next connecting flight to Vancouver? Or is it sufficient to finish just the landing formalities at Toronto and go through customs at Vancouver?

Since Toronto would be your POE, you will need to collect you luggage and clear customs formalities in Toronto. After finishing landing formalities, check-in your luggage again for your connecting flight.

Continuing (each post has a 10000 char limit)

Phone:

For now I've signed up for the Public Mobile service. Will see how it goes.

Talked to the guys at freedom mobile but have read many negative reviews about data connectivity problems and call drops. Their rates are very competitive though.

Public mobile SIM cards are available at Walmart, wow mobile stores and online (no tracking on delivery though). I bought it at a Walmart (was asked to pay "exact" cash. Lol. Paid by card instead).

The sim costs $11 and some change. Plans and inclusions are available on their website.

Service up until now has been good. LTE and 3G speeds have been excellent.

Weather:

It's been overcast for the past few days with intermittent showers. Not too cold and not too warm.

Hope this helps.

Open to queries or other pointers if anyone needs.

Hope you all have a wonderful time in the country.

Best Regards,

RookieMistake.
But when do you collect the baggage? What stage? You seem to have missed the info. Thanks.

You complete your immigration / landing formalities then you collect your bags to complete your customs formalities. If you have a connecting flight on the same ticket you drop your luggage off at a connections desk and proceed to the gate for your connection otherwise once customs cleared you head for the exit with your bags.

Hi

This is really helpful, can you please tell me how much goods we can carry from India and what are the expenses of that. In your case,
you must have mentioned in your "goods to follow" list.

Thanks in advance !!

Hi everyone, i need your help. I will be travelling to canada this month and im currently preparing my list of goods to be declared. It was stated that being detailed and specific with the estimated amount of everything you will be bringing with you is better. Now my concern is, is there a maximum total amount that a first time permanent resident should be aware of? I have read that there are personal exemptions of tax to returning canadians (like a limit of 800cad tax exemption) but does that mean we are taxed with our items too? Its mostly personal used clothes and items and a few unopen skin care and some dtuffs i brought with me. After i totalled it, it came upon around 3000 cad. Should i be concerned about this? Would they let me pay taxes for the things i brought with me?

Hi Everyone,

A big thanks to everyone for these posts. It was very helpful. I landed in Toronto as PR 4 days back. Everything went on smoothly.

At first I was directed to a machine to collect my immigration slip.In the machine ,you have to select the language, place the passport and then enter the details as asked, like how many members, resident country, are you carrying more than 10,000 CAD cash( tick yes, only if cash is more than 10,000, no need to include the amount in your travel card or travellers' cheques) etc etc. Collect the slip and you will be directed towards a counter along with other travellers. The officer there asked about the purpose of my visit, whether I carry any food, especially ghee, how much money do I carry, but she didn't check any documents. Then I was moved to another hall for immigrants. There I was asked to show my CPR. Asked me about any dependents, where would i stay in Canada(keep detailed address handy as they will send you the PR card to this address),whether I was convicted for any crime before, or whether I was denied entry to Canada. She wrote the answers in the CPR, stamped it and asked me to sign, and she said "U r PR of Canada now, Welcome to Canada". I collected my documents, moved to exit, where a lady stopped me to hand over few leaflets and a guide for newcomers. She asked to collect SIN number from Service Canada office later, as its closed on weekends. I collected my luggage and was directed to another hall. They saw my papers, asked how much amount I carry and asked to move. I informed that I got Goods to follow and need my B4 forms to be stamped. It was done. So please be proactive to get your B4 forms stamped, they are not asking them. The officer handed over a copy of B4 form and its done.
