Hi everyone,

I finally received my Canada PR visa and have until May 2026 to make my first landing. I'm really excited about this new chapter and wanted to get some advice from fellow immigrants.

I’m currently considering landing at the end of October 2025, just after Diwali. However, I’ve heard mixed opinions, some people are advising against it due to the job market slowdown and early onset of winter.

I’m also wondering if December end or January would be a better time to land. Do most offices and hiring processes pick up again by January? I’d love to hear from those who have experienced the landing process around these times.

Would really appreciate any suggestions or insights!

Thanks in advance

End of October will not be winter yet in metro Vancouver. Expect lots of rain.

December or January definitely winter.

Whether you're landing sooner or later, I would advise to start looking at jobbank listings. Some companies take time in processing applications. Better to get a head start.

Good luck and welcome to Canada!

I have been applying at many places. Got a revert back from a couple of them but since im a Mental health Professional and its a licensed profession in Canada, most of them require me to be in Canada at the time of the interview so securing a job from India itself is gonna be a struggle. So Im wondering which month woukd be a good time keeping in mind job prospects and hiring

You have to consider that not a lot of hiring happens, except seasonal work, in November/December due to end of year and Christmas. Obviously there is some variability depending what NOC since some sectors are always looking to hire. Would suggest mid January landing vs end of October/November.

Pretty much, summer is the best time to be here applying for jobs. If you are getting interviews right now, might as well fly-in and see if any of those convert to a job and then stay till your spouse figures out their move.

Not sure I would agree that summer is a good time to apply for jobs in most industries. Early Fall and mid-January to early spring most ideal in my opinion.

I would advise the sooner the better. Picking a right moment to come won't really help you. You will have enough hustle when you arrive, not only looking for a job.

There is never a perfect moment but employers and staff often take time off in July & August so hiring typically slows especially for office jobs. Most employers also function quite differently between the end of November to mid-January. The hiring process is very slow which doesn’t help.

So why don't you land either 1) when have a short notice for the interview - be it August or September? 2) If you don't get interview, land before your PR visa expires in May 2026. Weather-wise is irrelevant.
