Do you know whether home ownership deed is accepted as residence proof? The indian consulate website only talks about home lease as a proof for residence
I doubt. But you can call the consulate and ask them the same question.
In NY they were very helpful, kind and considerate. They made the job very easy. I called them for some info and they made sure I got all. Even when I went with the docs they worked with what I had. So give them a call and see how it goes

I am in a situation where I mailed by documents for PCC to SF consulate which didn’t include my original passport only photocopy of passport which was self attested. I thot it won’t be a problem since I got my passport renewed from SF consulate office a year back. Yesterday I got a call from office people and they told me that I need to mail my original passport as well. I am switching my employer and don’t want to send them passport.
Can you please suggest what options I have now:

- Can anyone go with my passport on my behalf and show them the passport and have it back the same day?
Do you know whether we have to submit one cashiers check for 27/28 or separate cashiers check for 25 and separate for 2/3
I had a quick question for folks here who have received their PCC from SF embassy. I came across a couple of forums that Qty 3 photographs are required for obtaining PCC. However, according to the website, we are only required to fill Misc form and Personal Performa form. Each form requires one 3.5cm x 3.5cm photograph only.
Could you be so kind and please let me know how many photos are required for obtaining PCC?

I had only used 2 photographs - one on each form. I applied in person. However, I highly recommend you carry 3. The staff at the front desks is all clerical staff (not foreign service officials) and they're sometimes inconsistent in what they ask from you. There is often inconsistency in what they ask from one person vs the other. If you don't comply, they get rude and difficult. To be on the safer side, carry 3. You do not want to have to go back just because you didn't have 1 extra photograph which they may ask for randomly out of the blue.
A classic example of this inconsistency is in one of the posts above - where the person submitted self attested copies of the passport but was STILL asked to submit originals although his passport was issued from the SF Consulate. Most people are not asked to submit original passport. But this person was asked to do so.
So there's basically no way to predict what they'll ask for. Please carry an extra photo. That would be my suggestion.
Nobody usually answers the phone at the SF Consulate. I was in the same situation as yours. But instead of showing ownership documents, I carried two of my utility bills. They accepted that.
They do not take cash. Fees have to be paid through Money order or Cashiers’ check drawn in favor of the ‘Consulate General of India, San Francisco’.
The CGI San Francisco site states upfront - "Cash, Personal Cheques, Credit Cards, Debit Cards or other banking instruments are not accepted."
If you can't pick up the PCC in person, you need to provide them a pre-paid trackable return mailing envelope. They will mail it to you. If you provide them an envelope but STILL want the option of picking it up, you're causing too much confusion on their part.
When you decide to opt for pick-up, they mark your application at the time of submission as "pick-up/will call". I've seen them write this on all applications where the applicant wants to come in person and pick it up.
When you tell them you want to keep both options open, you're making their job difficult. They as such get several PCC requests on a daily basis and cannot possibly serve everybody' individual interests and preferences. They might be able to accomodate your request - but there is a chance of this going wrong. As such, nobody can assure you how this will play out.
If you do not want to take this chance, I suggest you remain clear with your instructions to them. Either opt for pick up or opt for mailing. Pick one of the two clearly.

Police Clearance
Indian SFO Consulate received my PCC documents along with the money order (with all paperwork in order) along with an prepaid return envelope on July 7th 2018.
They cashed my money order on 12th July 2018 and said that PCC takes a month for processing.
Till today (Aug 22nd 2018) exactly 1 month and 10 days , I haven't recieved my PCC.
I have emailed them, again and again, and also emailed vcoci.sf@mea.gov.in and misc@cgisf.org but all they say, is PCC take one month in case your status is clear.
I have lived in US from the past 10 years and have no criminal record anywhere in the world and in India.
Does anyone know if they have been taking more than a month to process PCC.
Also at one point in the email, they old me that they are waiting for RPO in India to recieve clearance. Does it really take that long ?
So far no policeman has visited my home in India and to a fact that my passport was renewed last year from SFO consulate itself.
Please advise.

if SFO Consulate is taking long time, can we apply for PCC in New York or Chicago even if you are residing in West coast. Do they New York/ Chicago embassies take your request.
