If you applied for work permit along with or before your current permit expired, she should be in 'implied status' which should be legal enough.
But if you did not apply for work permit, then you should have extension of whatever temporary resident status she was in (study, visit etc).
In such case, I think there are some cases where you can apply for renewal after out of status (by 90 days)

guys can anyone here help me. I sponsored my wife for PR inland program. she does not work so we didn't renew her work permit. is she legally allowed to stay in Canada now that her work permit is expired (more than 6 months) until decision is made? immigration lawyer gave me some crazy advise that my wife has to leave Canada and apply from outside and made me very worried and it's possible that her PR also get rejected since she doesnt hold a valid statues.
I don't think that your wife needs to leave Canada and apply again! It sounds crazy! The best way is to call CIC via toll free: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/contact-ircc/client-support-centre.html

Hey guys, I just read this information by chance:
"
Appendix D: Contact information for provincial authorities

If the person you sponsor or any of their dependants gets financial support under a federal, provincial or municipal assistance program during the validity of the agreement, you will be in default of your obligations.

If you need information about how to repay the money owed, contact the provincial office listed below. Services are available during local business hours only."

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/application-forms-guides/guide-5289-sponsor-your-spouse-common-law-partner-conjugal-partner-dependent-child-complete-guide.html

I don't really get it! When I go to school to study French for free, I receive small amount as a financial support from Government, so I will have to pay Quebec province or something? Can some one please explain it?

Fire this clown "lawyer". Where do you even find these people. This lawyer is at best an incompetent idiot and at worst, a scammer.

You have implied status as long your application is being processed, meaning you won't be kicked out. You probably can't travel with this implied status as there is no document to prove this status to carriers but you are legally allowed to stay until there is a decision on your application.

Maybe cheaper, the place I just booked my appointment at charges $40 for Xrays. Bloodwork and urine sample are included in the medical exam ($180)

I did a medical a few years ago (expired now) and it's just a chest xray, not a full body scan. So it's not as expensive.

did you get PR without having a valid permit? so my wife can stay in canada wihtout a valid permit and hope for her PR to be approved?
My file is in process I applied in November. But I don’t know why u r lawyer said that. Just ignore him and wait for the decision and don’t worry.
