Quick question about travel after the final interview:

I have received an email to go for the "landing" interview on 1st March (note that MyCIC/ECAS still just says Processing/Decision Made respectively).

I am due to go to the US by air for a conference on 24th March so I'm assuming I won't have my PR card by then. But will I be able to travel back into Canada on the confirmation of PR letter that I understand I will get at the interview?

No, you won't be able to travel unless you are from a visa exempt country, as far as I know. You can reschedule your interview. I think somebody here had a similar situation.

I also think it's ok to come back with your COPR if you are driving in.

Hi Guys,

I have couple of questions and needed advice and not sure to buy one way ticket or return ticket and trying to get advice from seniors:

Q1: My spouse has to return back to Canada She has valid ETA and her OWP is approved when she was away so should need just one way ticket from her country to Canada as OWP is approved or she needs two way (Return) ticket as well (from her country to canada and then from Canada to her country) again as she came in Canada last time as a Visitor . Needed to confirm this time does she need return ticket or just one way ticket to canada is fine as OWP is approved.

Q2- If she informs at border about approval of Work Permit ? Can they give OWP at border? further what does it mean of OWP expiry can she stay in canada by OWP expiry?

Q3- She has valid ETA but she got this ETA when she came in Canada as a Visitor, she did not get new ETA as a worker from IRCC and when reached out with IRCC , it was informed that this is valid ETA so will it be fine if she returns back at 1 way flight?

Needed advice , please thanks.

Hey everyone,

i submitted my application, and documents were received on Dec 1st, 2016. i just checked my cic on-line account. It shows they are reviewing my medical result. Following is my current application status.

Application status: We are processing your application. We will send you a message when there is an update or if we need more information from you.

Review of eligibility: Your application is in progress. We will send you a message when we start reviewing your eligibility.

Review of medical results: We are reviewing the results of your medical exam.

Review of additional documents: We do not need additional documents.

Interview: You do not need an interview. We will send you a message if this changes.

Biometrics: We do not need your fingerprints. We will send you a message if this changes.

Background check: We are processing your background check. We will send you a message if we need more information.

Final decision: Your application is in progress. We will send you a message once the final decision has been made.

I am wondering is the time too long? Should i call CIC to confirm my application? If so, is there anyone know the number i should call?

@profiler can you assist?
Sure.

How long has she been gone for? There is no need for a return ticket in this case. They will scan her passport and see a pending PR application in play. It would be beneficial if she had the OWP in hand when she lands, but can bring AOR and any other correspondence CIC has sent.

Q2- If she informs at border about approval of Work Permit ? Can they give OWP at border? further what does it mean of OWP expiry can she stay in canada by OWP expiry?
No. This is printed and mailed direct to the mailing address provided. CBSA cannot provide this. OWP permits the holder to remain in Canada until it's expiry. If the OWP is expiring, and she still doesn't have a PR, reapply within a few days of the expiry (make sure CIC has that before the expiry date). If they get it in time, she will have implied status until they "decide". Usually OWP's are permitted for 2 years, or the length of the validity of the passport. Which ever is sooner. For the crash course on the OWP application, see my signature. If you need to apply again, make sure the passport has enough validity on it.

For Implied Status, see: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/temporary-residents/visitors/implied-status-extending-stay.html

The eTA will be fine. It's just a matter of getting on the plane. Once she has arrived in Canada, she can discuss entry with the CBSA.

Best of luck!

Q1 - My wife resubmitted her OWP due to just one tiny error and CPC-Vegreville received it yesterday. We originally submitted OWP, PR and Sponsorship on Dec. 21st, 2017. Does the OWP queue start on Dec 21st or on Feb 19th (yesterday)? Since it's the resubmission of the OWP, will it process quicker or be back in the same time frame of up to 4 months? Her visitor visa expires April 21st and I understand she will be on implied status after the expiration date.

Q2 - What's the difference between ECAS and MyCIC?

Many thanks for your help.

Thanks Coridal and Profiler, she has been out since 3 weeks and her OWP arrived at home when she was away , so should she show approved email of OWP from IRCC correct as OWP is at residence right now , correct?

I am Dec 11th applicant. I've seen earlier that someone who applied Dec 9th got OWP already. But I think it was a real luck. Honestly expecting mine by the middle of March, but you never know
I am Dec 11 too! However, mine was sent back due to insufficient fund and I send it again to Vegreville and was delivered Feb 15. huhuhu! I hope I don't need to wait another 3 mos.

Thanks Yulia for the quick reply. I am from a Visa Exempt Country (UK). The conference is in Salt Lake City so I can't drive unfortunately (from Montreal).

I've been reading all of the information on the official immigration site but none of it seems to specifically cover the situation of a new PR who is awaiting their card. I'm not even sure if the PR card processing times (currently 61 days!!) apply in this situation either.

As with most elements of this process, it just isn't very clear.

I suppose I'll find out further at the interview next week. If it turns out I'm unable to go to the conference then I'm out about $2000...but hey, at least I'll be a PR!

No, if it's at the residence, and someone can forward by courier, that's best.

If not, just bring correspondence that CIC has sent to her about her PR. Also, one month out of Canada could be bad for her application. So she wants to return soon...
