My father is a canadian citizen since 1974. I born in 1986 outside canada and my mother was not Canadizan citizen that time. She got citizenship status in 1990. I just want to know under which category I fall. I am going to sponsor my spouse and in form their is a quesiton where they asked which type of citizen you are?
1:- Citizenship by birth
2:- Citizenship by Descent
3:- Naturalized Canadian citizen

Next step is your background check. If you have gc key, u will be able to see it on there whenever they update it
Questions for you :
1. Were you born in canada ? If so your are option #1
2. Are you adopted ? Read : http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/rules_2009.asp regarding what it means by "citizenship by descent".
3. Did you land in canada and later got citizenship if none of above 2 apply to you ? option #3.

How many wks for background check? Approximately, How many months to wait before decision made??

I'm curious, have you been transferred to a VO or background check started? Our file was received Mar 21 so close to yours. We haven't had anything since SA on Apr 12 and we are US Outland
