Refugee Travel document renewal

Hello! Not sure what to do!
My partner applied for a RTD renewal on August 17th and received the renewal September 2nd. In the application they included a letter that stated that their old document had a valid USA visa and they requested the return of it. Their old document did not expire until January 2027, so that’s why they included it in the application. It has now been 3 weeks and they have not yet received it back. We called IRCC 2x and submitted a webform as well as even contacted our MP. Still waiting a response from the MP but IRCC said they reached out to the processing office in Sydney,NS, and they have not received any communication from them. We are now stuck, and not sure what to do. Anyone else have had this issue before? What do you advise?

They keep the old travel document when processing a new RTD, but applicants can request the old document back specifically included a letter requesting the old RTD back because it contains a valid U.S. visa,. They also state that original documents may be returned separately from the new travel document.

We did. We included a letter stating that we want it back. However, it’s been 4 weeks now and the old one has not been returned, which seems very long, and the fact that the IRCC hasn’t given us an update on when we would receive it.

You should continue following up with the MP and specifically ask them to confirm whether the old RTD is still being held at the Sydney office and whether it has been mailed.

I'm about to renew my RT and I have a valid US. Should i send it while applying or keep it?
