I submitted my OCI application in person at BLS Toronto [premium lounge] today and wanted to share a few observations that might help others:

1. e‑OCI is coming, but for now they confirmed that applicants will still receive a physical booklet.
2. Premium Lounge users can still choose pickup. They just ask you to sign a form and write “voluntary pickup” on it.
3. If you are using Premium Lounge, it’s actually better not to start the OCI application online yourself. I had pre‑filled mine but didn’t submit it. The BLS staff ended up changing several things anyway - for example, they removed my birth district (said it wasn’t needed) and selected “No” for the question about having relatives in India.

Overall, if you’re a former Indian citizen, the main thing they care about is whether
a. you have a surrender certificate.
b. your parents were also Indian citizens.

The application is pretty straightforward.

Did they tell you when to expect to receive the OCI card ?

Hello!

Can someone please help answer these questions:

We have 2 OCI renewal applications due to passport update - one for my child and other for myself. We are in Toronto juristidiction.

Minor application (4 year old)
1. Do we need to upload 2 declaration forms (voter id and ration card related) - one with the thumbprint of my son and attested by both parents and one with my signature since I am now a Canadian citizen? Should the fle reference number in both be my child's application id (asking because I have my own application in progress)?
2. Do we need to upload a no objection letter signed by parents or is it no required for renewal?
3. Can we travel immediately after submission of the renewal application? Do we get a confirmation or an acknowledgement that we can travel with even if the application is not processed?

Thanks in advance!

Has anyone who applied for OCI through the Vancouver Consulate with an acknowledgement date of 17 April received approval yet?

Update got approved today.

So, I submitted my son's (4 year old) OCI update application (passport update) in the OCI portal and immediately got a message saying the application can't be processed as it's been over 3 months since the passport has been issued and that it will now be a paid service at BLS. However, the passport was issued on March 17th and today is June 15th (so 2 more days to go).
Why did it consider as over 3 months?
Even if we have to pay, does anyone here know how to proceed now? Can we make the payment online and submit it? We called BLS and they are not familiar with how to proceed now.

Please, we travel in 2 weeks - if someone has been in a similar situation, please let me know.

Thanks!
