Unless your passport expiry lead to receiving only part of the PGWP then no you can’t extend a PGWP. If you are asking about an extension with no grounds Technically you can but expect it to be denied and you may get a month or two extra. Haven’t seen any consequences but doesn’t mean there won’t be any. Unless there is a good reason to try to extend your work permit like imminent PR or to hit a Canadian work experience timeframe you need to evaluate why you are attempting to be able to work a month or two more.

There is no letter necessary, just show the IRCC link to your employer if they question. It will probably take a while before you receive rejection, but be prepared to pack stuff up quick when it does happen, as the denial might come with a removal order. Enjoy
Hi, while i am waiting for the response to my PGWP extension application ( This was applied on July 04, 2025 based on the letter provided by my employer), is it advisable to apply for a visitor record to ensure that i can stay in Canada after i get the response on my work permit. Any inputs would be great thanks.
If not eligible for PGWP extension then yes. Once refused you are out of status and cannot work.

If you wait for refusal then you are out of status as soon as you are refused so don't wait. You may be told to leave immediately and not able to restore status since you applied for a fake extension.
It only makes sense to apply for a visitor record if your original work permit is still valid.
Apply for it and if rejected because 90 days past PGWP expiry then may be told to leave immediately.
