Do we need to take birth certificate with us for fresh OCI application even though we are Indians by birth?
We don't have original copies with us but can provide photocopies

For Adult application: birth certificate is not required. Passport is sufficient.

To cancel voter ID: Go to https://voters.eci.gov.in/
Login with your registered mobile number and submit form 7.
After submitting Form 7, reach out to you BLO/ERO: You can find their contact here: https://electoralsearch.eci.gov.in/pollingstation
Follow up with them to cancel Voter ID.

Take form 7 acknowledgement printout and submit it with your application at BLS. They need this along with declaration form.

Now you don't need VPN, the website is working fine now

The website works BUT now it keeps giving the "Invalid Relationship" error on the Part B. I have rechecked the whole application multiple times and I do not seem to find where exactly is this error coming from.

Did anyone out here happen to come across this error?

There should not be any space or special character in the relationship field.
For example put GRANDFATHER instead of GRAND FATHER

If you read the checklist document carefully: It says: " All copies of documents as mentioned above must be self-attested and also uploaded online. "

NOTE: You need to upload the docs without attesting it. Self Attestation is required when we submit the application at BLS. This is true at least for Ottawa Jurisdiction.

If you are mentioning the name and address of you relatives in india, please carry a copy of your document to show as well. It depends what If you providing address from their adhaar card/passport/ or any other document, just keep a copy of that for safe side.

do they want a physical copy of photo even though form prints it on the application itself?

I called the BLS for Voter ID documents, he said that you only need to submit declaration form and not Form 7. However, I will still do that because you never know , BLS people are troublemakers.

BLS agent told that electricity bill/utility bill that appear in the drop down are just example. You can upload driver's licence by selecting the utility bill option (or whatever its called...I dont remember exactly)

It depends from centre to centre.
I went to Ottawa BLS and they did asked for form 7 acknowledgement print out.
See, BLS is not consistent in their work, someday they ask for something other days they will not.
So depends on you luck

In my case it took a week to cancel the voter ID.
Form 7 acknowledgement will be available immediately once you submit form 7 in the voter self service portal.
