Indian passport surrender

was it just the passport cover or your details also.

Are you going to apply OCI after this. I have seen that as per the OCI checklist, we need to provide indian passport copy and original too? How is that possible if you don't have your Indian passport now.

Hi, I'm happy to share that I finally received my surrender certificate today.

It's also funny that I received a passport cover too in the envelope. Not sure if anyone received it? I hope it's some kind of gift from CGI and BLS, lol.

I received the surrender certificate today. It came stapled to the cancelled Indian passport, and folded to fit inside the passport. Is that normal ? Can I detach the certificate from the passport ?

I dont think they gifted you that passport cover. BLS agents are very much known for their sneaky tactics of "selling" you the passport cover and other misc services without your consent. Check how much you got charged from BLS and see if there is a receipt with added fees. I bet BLS agent charged you for that passport cover without even informing you so that he can get his sales commission. Really sneaky things they are.

They will not keep the original passport. They just need to verify original

Ok, thanks for reply. Do we need to surrender passport for even entry or tourist visa ? What shoudl techniclaly we do? I know few people who mentioned to not surrender passports.

Why do you wanna spend extra money applying for entry or tourist visa through BLS..
eVisa option has been reinstated by GoI for Canadian Passport holders. You can apply for it from your home without having the need to go to BLS

Yes, you can detach it, so that you can scan or take photo copies easily. They did it for their convenience and you do what feels convenient for you.
