All these rental privileges will only work if you are employed.

Otherwise, get ready to pay advance rent.

Also, remember that you are living on the 2nd largest country in the world. So the land is very scarce here, hence the rentals are very high.

So if soft-landing is possible, get a job first and only then move to this frozen wonderland.
Personally, I recommend everyone to have a good enough job for their needs in Canada before coming here. I missed out on Australia (I had a PR there back in 2013-14 or so) exactly for the same reason. I did not want to go there without a job. Patience is the key for long term goals.

As far as rentals go, if possible start out with a REIT owned building : they are more basic (AFAIK), they have shared laundry usually and lack many frills but they tend to be more process oriented in renting out apartments and less whimsical as individual landlords.

If you look at @GandiBaat's answers from a perspective of earning 200K+ with a Canadian job, it makes total sense as you have all the options of the world. If you are a peasant, then your choices are more limited. Renting a room or a 1BR is totally different ballgame for newly landed folks without a job
I believe if one is a single with 70-80K job, the outcome will be identical for a 1 bedroom or studio or loft suite. You will have your job references. I went for 2 BR because I was married and we wanted to have a kid soon. Having a job cushions a lot of impact in moving.

Good decision of not going without a job. Australia is pretty good though weather wise.

I visited seattle in 2016 late fall. I loved what I saw -- geography and scene wise. Mildly cold and really colourful. Falls are very beautiful around in west coast. So I decided for west coast Canada. Plus having the same timezone as US west coast helps too. I live in same time zone as Seattle, SF, LA, SD and just a smallish flight away from there. So it helps job situation in my field. That sealed the deal for me.

Mendicino is definitely a hypocrite liar and resigning would be the most honourable action if he has any.
Mendicino is trouble we knew it from the day 1. Good to see it is being confirmed.

TR2PR Reloaded :cool::

New Canadian immigration program in the works. Canada is creating a new immigration program for temporary residents, and changes to Express Entry are on the way.

Canada is working on a new fast-track immigration program for temporary foreign workers and international students.

Immigration Minister Sean Fraser told CBC News the new program will be a permanent pathway for temporary residents. It will be similar but not identical to the Temporary Residence to Permanent Residence (TR2PR) program which opened the door to 90,000 essential workers and international student graduates last year.

“We are looking right now at the best path forward to create a permanent pathway for temporary residents,” Fraser said to CBC News.

Shortly after being appointed immigration minister, Fraser was mandated to “expand pathways to Permanent Residence for international students and temporary foreign workers.” Now, Fraser has 120 days to develop and release a strategy to achieve these goals, as dictated by a motion passed in the Canadian House of Commons.

“That actually puts me on a clock to come up with a framework to establish this new permanent residency pathway, not just for international students, but also for temporary foreign workers,” Fraser said.

Further details of the new program will be available by September 8 when Fraser’s 120 deadline is up.

Express Entry changes
Canada will once again invite Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) and Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates to apply for permanent residence this July, but that’s not the only change coming.

Bill C-19 is now passing through the Senate and is on track to become law. It will give Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) the authority to invite Express Entry candidates in the pool based on an economic goal, such as occupation, French-language ability, or education credential.

IRCC will be required to engage in a public consultation process to help them select which groups of Express Entry candidates will be invited in these types of draws. Further, IRCC must report annually to Parliament describing the economic goal that was sought in each instance.

From what I understood, he is going to continue TR to PR
I can tell 1 thing it is just stupid.

I am not sure why they want to destroy their own country.

It could potentially be a great stream for Canadian government. Make Express entry exclusive for high value and globally in demand NOCs, make this stream for TRs and Students. Make processing time 5 years, fkers will get nothing from government, or good credit cards, mortgages. But still have a carrot at the end of the stick so people pay for expensive education. Fill low skilled jobs.

But I doubt Fraser has thought that far ahead, poor guy is from village in nova scotia, I doubt he knows what the he'll he's doing

About life in calgary usually I post about things I like now about things I don't like..

Weather
4 seasons a day ,we go through everything in the same day.I heard it is really cold in winter same as Edmonton

Restaurants
There is no damn buffets for Mediterranean cuisine.Indian restaurants they stopped it ,I think in canada there I no buffet culture, coming from India and TX that is something which is bad for me

Jobs
Usually calgary is a corporate city ,which I meant is city with corporate offices, if you are looking for distribution center jobs Edmonton is your best bet

Empty
This city is empty ,You won't see much people out on a downtown.

Conservative way of life. People hang out with their families and friends outside the city rather than going to downtown to sit in a bar with strangers. If you're looking to see people get outdoorsy. Expect not being included though because you can imagine a tight family/friend group wouldn't be very interested in including a total stranger (especially if said stranger is a fresh immigrant).

TX is conservative, never seen something like this .May be because there are more people in Houston.
Other than canadian restaurants, the foreign restaurant like Indian, Arabic...sucks

Foreign food in Vancouver sucked too. Can't expect much since they're not authentic anyway. If you want "culture" in your meals I'm afraid your only bet is to make it yourself at home. Is it a big deal though?

Aye Houston is about twice Calgary's population so you're gonna see more people also in downtown. But that's also because Houston probably has more foreigners than Calgary. Calgary and Alberta in general is really like that typical small east euro city. Finding friends will probably be harder than it'd be in Vancouver or Toronto. If you're single you can try to date too. A gf/bf is an easy pass to larger friend circles.

Any tips for finding REIT owned buildings in Canada?
