I am victim of marriage fraud. The perpetrator is an unlicensed immigration consultant and she runs and Asian ladies dating service (citylovedotca) from which she lures her victims to marry girls from Mainland China. She would accompany the victims to China to meet their potential partners. But these girls are only interest in getting into Canada. I am hoping to track down victims like myself so we could go to the authorities to expose her before she victimizes more people. If you are a victim for this perpetrator please contact me at fususangao using htmail.

Sorry to hear you were victimized.

I'm sure the various authorities would also like to hear about this little Chinese MOC operation: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/protection/fraud/report.asp.

And if the Chinese woman is passing herself off as an immigration consultant, I'm sure the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC) would like to hear about it. Since Bill C-35 was passed this summer, it's now an offence for anyone other than an accredited immigration representative to conduct business, for a fee or other consideration, at any stage of an application or proceeding. Technically, no one can represent themselves as an immigration consultant unless they are a member of a provincial or territorial law society, the Chambre des notaires du Québec, or the Canadian Society of Immigration Consultants (CSIC).....and this goes for the Chinese woman you hired too.

May I ask at what point you discovered you had been deceived? Did your wife actually land as a PR before you realized what was going on? Did she leave you soon after getting to Canada, and if so, do you know where she is now?

I discovered it before she arrived in Canada. She was rejected after the immigration interview based on her testimony. After that, I hired a lawyer to make a sponsorship appeal. I cannot speak mandarin and she could barely speak English. We had to dig into her past to prepare for the immigration appeals hearing. And it was at that time that I learn this was all a scam. I was too naive and did not pick up the signs earlier. One of the signs was that she married me after divorcing her husband for less than half a year. When I was introduced to my wife, she was still married. Initially I did not realized that there was something wrong with this until my lawyer indicated that this is clear sign of marriage of convince. Everything fell apart after that. She is still in China. I have spent about $20,000 on this. The perpetrator and I went to China to me my wife. I met another man who was her client like me looking for a wife in China. During this trip she went to other major cities in China to perform the same task. I was dropped off at the city where my wife resided and did not accompany her. I was only told latter about this by her. I do not have any tangible evidence. That is why I am trying to find out if there any persons out there that were victimized by her before I approach the authorities.

Yes you may have been scammed but you were part of the problem because you thought you could find true love this way. It's good you found out now and not later. Isn't it obvious why these girls join these dating sites and why men join them too? I suppose some find love this way but I am very suspicious of it. There have been quite a few documentaries on these types of arrangements and from what I've seen, they rarely turn out well. How can you possibly communicate over the internet with someone who doesn't even speak your language?

You need to be careful. The world is full of people who are desperate to get out of the country they live in and would happily marry anybody if they thought it would help. There are many stories out there of people, both men and women who have been scammed by somebody who just wanted a PR.

Uhm...my neighbour has been married to his mail order bride for like 10 years or something ridiculous like that. Who knows if it's "true love" (swoooooon)...but something's working for them.

Just sayin'.

Lynn (I think I might be a troll).

Let me get this straight... you went on a website to be set up to marry a Chinese woman, were then escorted to China by an "immigration consultant " to meet said woman, and then married her without being able to understand a word she said, so clearly you knew nothing or very little about this person...and at no point during all this did you think something was wrong??

You said what I was thinking only you put it a much nicer way :D

Surely local dating sites would be much more convenient and less expensive?

Lol Lynn, you are not a troll. And your neighbors sound awesome.

Well whether or not it was the wisest thing for him to do (hey, some people's biological clocks are really starting to tick........and "all is fair in love and war," is it not? :p), I think the guy is beating himself up enough as it is judging by his screenname (that's an invitation to be constantly referred to as an idiot, if you didn't catch that).

His stated purpose was to come on here and find more victims of this Chinese bride for Canadian visa ring. I'm not sure that he'll be able to find too many people on this forum. Thus, my suggestion to make it known to the authorities so that *they* can track down the all the victims once they are able to (hopefully) get a hold of the perpetrators.

See, here's my issue with this...with all due respect, any rational adult should have seen some alarm bells here, and sorry, but I don't consider this person a "victim". Now he goes and reports this and puts pressure on the CIC to "do more to protect innocent Canadians", the end result? Tighter restrictions, more scrutiny, and longer wait times for those of us in real marriages or worst case, rejection because one box was left unchecked. It's situations like these that complicate things for legitimate families and forgive me, but it's somewhat upsetting.

I also know of two marriages that were arranged like this, that both seem to be working out fine. In each case a man in his 50s went to Thailand and came back with a teenage wife - a bar girl he essentially bought. Of course it seemed like a scam to everyone who knew him, but I guess the girl figures living with him in a comfortable home in California (the first one) or Calgary (the second) is preferable to her life back home.

What really makes the OP's case different is the quick divorce to marry him - presumably once the woman gets PR, she'll leave him and get back together with her husband and try to sponsor him.

That's a really great point and I think that's exactly what would have happened if that appeal was ever successful. Unforch, OP says he has already spent $20,000 on this process (including the legal costs of trying to appeal, I presume, before he pulled the plug on the appeal).

Right. There are plenty of dating services where the women are not just looking to leave their homeland but also looking for a husband at the same time. In many countries, falling in love is not really the way things work for a relationship. You just marry who you get or who your parents tell you to and learn to love them later on. Therefore, it might not seem like a bad idea in some cultures if a woman is looking to marry anyway to find a man that will also save her from poverty. They may have no plans to scam the man and if he is decent, they will be more than happy to stay with him.

However, there are also the other type who are looking to scam, they will marry you to get the PR with no intention of staying with you. Sometimes they will move in with you for a while to convince you to send all your savings to their sick mother in homeland and after that they leave. In other cases, they leave as soon as the PR card arrives in the mail. I have even heard of a case where the woman did not even tell her husband that she had gotten the visa and landed already. He saw it on eCas. He later met her around town with her boyfriend.

Sponsorship should be taken seriously and you need to be certain that the person who you are planning to sponsor will not leave you as soon as they arrive and go straight on welfare which you will have to pay for by the way.

I think many are judging the OP from a Canadian standpoint. In many cultures love comes second when it comes to marriage. Men marry in some cultures because they want to start having children. Love is irrelevant.
