I've been wondering the same thing that sshelton is. I lived in Canada for 15 months from 1991 to 1992. I wasn't sure if I would have to get some kind of clearance from Canada, but I figured they could check their own databases if they need to. Also, the fact that it was 20 years ago, it would think it wouldn't be a big deal. Hopefully, it won't hold my application up.

We did not use a lawyer. I don't think you need a lawyer or that a lawyer helps the process move along faster. You just have to be careful and provide sufficient details to proof your relationship is legitimate. Also, if you forward a complete application with fees prepaid helps a lot.
Congratulations! However this really makes me wonder if there is something wrong with our application, not enough proof of relationship for instance... Since you apparently applied just a few days after us, and we prepaid and everything :(

Hello Everyone

This is my first time posting but I have been trolling these forums for months

I'm Canadian 28 and my Husband is American 22 we were married August/10. No kids this is my second marriage and his first, we met online.

We're waiting for his finger prints and a few other odds and end to come in then hopefully I'll get to send in our paperwork within the next 2 weeks. I'm excited and scared all at once!

I had a question, I'm sending 3 separate envelopes in one large envelope I have 1 envelope for my Sponsorship paperwork, another envelope for his paperwork and the 3rd envelope is proof of our relationship, Which I coloured coded using different coloured paperclips and I put in a table of Content stating what the topic whether its Wedding Plans, Phone records, letters, bank statements etc etc then stated which colour of paperclips I used for that topic I then made another Table of content for the topic itself.

I hope you all can follow what I just said cause I'm not sure if I follow lol . My question is should I send everything in 1 large envelope or keep them in 3 different envelopes.

If I could get some tips or if anyone has an experience they'd like to share about how they did things please I'm all ears!

Thanks in advance

Mel

We had three separate large envelopes too. I sealed all three and wrote (in black magic marker) our names, type of sponsorship application, processing office, list of what each enveloped contained, and "envelope x of 3" on each. Then I packaged them together with elastics - and included one final covering memo on top with our names, type of application, processing office and number of envelopes. Then I stuffed that entire mess into one super-size envelope for mailing.

Hope this makes sense and helps!

My recommendation would be to send just one envelope...I think they look at all the documents, which means they will have to open everything at once. Just organise the paper work so that it is in three different sections the way you want it.

Again this is just my opinion...not sure if there is guideline that cic issues for this matter

Hi, we were advised just one envelope as well. they will throw out any dividers, paperclips etc that you provide. We just used simple sticky tabs to divide the sections. It does say somewhere in the paperwork to ensure that the pictures are all loose in the envelope. So much fun isn't it??

Best of luck in your application!

Re: Congratulations

Thank you! I'm sure things are fine. I probably got a fast processing officer. It's really based on luck. For instance, I heard nothing about an interview and was waiting for a letter that stated that, instead we recieved a PPR...didn't even think that was the next step in communications. My husband and I made a bet, he thought June was when we were going to get it and I was thinking August...he won the bet!

I wish you all the best! Good news is that the Visa office is closed to non-Visa drop-ins and they will make significant progress. Hang in there!

Hey guys,

Hubby got his Visa...yeah!!! Only problem is that he is receiving conflicting messages about when he can import his car. He would like to put the car under the list of items he will be bringing with him and import it when he moves to Toronto, after he Lands. He would like to Land this Thursday night so that he can get a SIN number on Friday to apply for work. He will still live in the US until he gets a job in Canada. He wants to import his car when he moves officially so that he can refinance his car with a Canadian bank, after he gets a job offer. He called the Canadian Border Services line and they told him he can Land first and add his car to the list of items he will bring when he moves. He spoke with a US immigration officer that told him that he has to import his car directly after he lands. Not sure which is true, any thoughts and advice? :'(

I think he's supposed to land with the car. Yeah exactly what they told you at the border, when he "lands" he declares that he's bringing in his car. I'm sure they know how to deal with it at the border, I have a question when he does land will he be driving across or will it by air?

More congratulations from me Love-Bug-Wings!

So glad to hear we`re moving along in Buffalo. I`m about 6 weeks behind you and I hope all goes quickly. I just received my CSQ and paid my PR fee so all docs should be in to Buffalo.

I`m interested in hearing from those that are receiving the PPR and landing....have you left homes for sale in your home country? Does that work well? Do you have to be back often or is it just documents that have to travel back and forth? If I get my PPR I want to pack up and leave ;D, but I fear being so far away (Montreal-TX is a bit expensive). I haven`t put the house on the market yet, but intend to do so by the end of this month.

Just wondering what most of you all are doing....
Thanks! My husband was renting so it works out perfectly. We saved up to buy a house when he moves here. Once living in Toronto together, we will still go to Buffalo once a month to visit his mother and relatives. Good luck with putting the house on sale. Cheers!

I have a quick question for anyone on the board that may know. If I have to make an update to my application do I e-mail Buffalo through their general e-mail address, or to I make a case specific inquiry? My mother recently moved and I want to update her address and phone number in Buffalo in case they try to contact her. Does anyone have an idea how I would go about doing this?

There should be no problem then, I've read of tons of people landing their vehicles that way. Regardless once he's a permanent resident of Canada he won't have any issues going across the border to finish the work he has to do with importing his car.

I thought the same. It sucks to put it lightly.
