A request by an applicant to have expedited processing is understandable. However, in the interest of fairness and program integrity, our policy is to process applications in the order in which they are received. To move one file ahead in the queue would not be fair to the many applicants in similar situations who had applied earlier.
It's this part that really drives me nuts. I consider the chances that they are processing applications in the order in which they were received to be slim to none.

Thought I would share our eventful landing story;

DH got his passport back from Buffalo on 20/07/11, and it did take the full 15 business days to get it back.

The paperwork stated that if you are already in Canada, you can either leave the country and come back in at a port of entry to land, or you can make an appointment at the closest CIC office.

We are in rural Saskatchewan and the closest port of entry is only 45 minutes south of us so we hopped in the car and drove down last evening. Unfortunately once we got there, we were informed that they do not process landings at that port of entry (Oungre, SK/Fortuna, ND) and that we had to go to North Portal, SK/Portal, ND). :(

It would have been nice if they had specified on the paperwork that not all border crossings are capable of processing the landing! We assumed it would be no problem since that was the same border crossing that we came up through in March when I was a returning Canadian after living in the U.S. for many years and my husband was issued a visitor visa, and they processed our vehicle imports and everything there without any problem.

So we started heading over towards North Portal on some of the worst “highways” we have ever driven on, trying to find our way without a map. After we drove about 75 km, we discovered that the highway to North Portal was closed. Turns out a bridge failed earlier this week. There were no detour signs or alternate routes posted and not knowing the back roads at all, we back tracked to Estevan and asked a gas station attendant for directions. She didn’t know of any route around the closed highway but she helped me search through a “Back Roads of Southern Saskatchewan Guide” and even photocopied the right page to give me. So we found what appeared to be the quickest route around and it took us back south and as we were looking for the “highway” to turn on, we ended up at another border crossing; Estevan, SK/Noonan, ND so DH just went in on the Canadian side and was again told that it had to be processed at North Portal and gave us directions. So we started driving only to get part way to discover another “ROAD CLOSED” sign!!!!

So we looked at the map again and found a route that would take us way out the way around on back roads and decided to chance it. By that point we were determined that we were going to get it done last night, one way or another! So after another 45 minutes of driving on mostly gravel roads in the dark, we managed to arrive at North Portal!

We parked on the Canadian side and DH went in while the kids and I waited in the car. Of course they told him to walk over to the U.S. side first and then re-enter. The border crossing was really slow because of the highway closure preventing travel through it, unless of course you wanted to take the gravel road route like we had just done. This made the process move quickly once there and DH said they were very helpful and friendly to him and once it was all complete said, “Welcome to Canada, you are officially an immigrant now!” ;D

We arrived back home just after midnight last night…..very happy to be done with all of that and hopeful that he will find a job soon!

Wishing everyone here gets some good news soon too!!!

For all of us who are frustrated at Buffalo please read the post below from the Port of Spain Thread the person actually began that thread and has been active since 2009

Hey everyone,

It's me, CONFUSEDnSCARED.

I hardly post in the forum due to a couple of reasons. One being, lack of timing on my hands to catch up and make posts.

I see there are a lot of newbies in the forum. Welcome aboard and I hope you all get through this process smoothly as you possibly can.

My application is still in process. It seems as if it will be a never ending process for me but by the grace of God and power of the mind, I have been sane to this day and still going at it. Last I found out from the POS office is there is no longer a Program Manager to oversee the Immigration Department ... good or bad thing? I am not 100% sure but I think all in all, there needs to be a Program Manager to sign off on documents, approved or not. Perhaps this is the reason for a lot of delays.

Anyway, it very well seems as if I will be requested by POS to take a 3rd set of medicals for my application. Speaking of money and more money spending each time they ask for a medical. My name should make it on their Gold Star plaque in their office. I am definitely the star for waiting 3 years and still counting for this process to be over and done with.

Here to a little hope for those of you now starting the process. Never give up. Keep the strong faith and your time soon comes.

"We started processing your application on August 12, 2009.

Medical results have been received.

Interview scheduled for September XX, 2010."

Keep in mind, interview passed, second set of meds requested at interview. Meds have been received. Still waiting, waiting, waiting *yawns*

For those of you thinking MP ... well, *rolls eyes* U S E L E S S pints of human flesh and blood trying to represent the ones in need of their help.

Have a great weekend all and remember to stay positive, your time soon comes Smiley

When we think our situation is bad there is always someone in a worse state so look up and be positive your turn will come stop complaining

I think the stop complaining part was a bit much. While I agree its good to have patience when dealing with immigration its also not easy. What good is having a place to talk to others in the same situation if you cant vent alittle? its hard to speak with others not going through this process and have them truly understand what we are all going through so its comforting to have that place and have people reasure you that you are on the right track or that they feel the same way you do.

I agree that the "stop complaining was a bit much" but what I was trying to emphasize was that a wait of 6 months pales in comparison to someone who has done everything requested and is still hopeful even tho 3 years later..

Faith and patience especially when we dont understand the process.

I posted this over on the February Thread but E-Cas just went wild for us according to: https://ecas.carroll.org.uk

We got the following added:

"We sent you a letter on March 24, 2011 about the decision on your
application. Please consider delays in mail delivery before contacting us."

"We received XXXXXXX's application for permanent residence on
April 7, 2011."

"We started processing your application on April 8, 2011."

This has totally made my day, I hope others get some good news today.
Awesome News! Congrats! Your on your way!

I just like to share with everyone my experience about this whole immigration process. Maybe someone out there might be in the same boat like what we had experience. Our experience might be helpful in a way :)

Backgrounder: Our case was under a Family Class Sponsorship. Same-sex marriage. I live in the U.S. on a work visa. Met my Canadian husband online February 2010. I visited him after 2 1/2 months of almost talking online everyday last mid April 2010 and stayed with him for 9 days. During my visit he proposed to me and I said Yes. June 2010 we got married in Toronto after 2 days I went back to the US. First week of September 2010 my husband visited me in California for 10 days. We did a road trip from LA to Vegas to Grand Canyon Arizona. We submitted our application last week of September 2010; first week of October 2010 my husband was approved as sponsored. My file was transferred to buffalo. First week of November, I received a letter an Acknowledgement receipt. Last week of December 2010 I received my initial assessment letter that an interview was needed. March 2011 my husband visited me again in LA. May 2011 after five (5) months I received an email regarding my interview date and time. I also received the letter detailing what I had to bring. June 2011 I went to visit my husband and celebrated our first wedding anniversary together, dinner at 360 Restaurant CN Tower, road trip to Orillia and Ottawa to visit my husband siblings.

So last week, July 14 I had my interview in Buffalo at 830am. I was called 840am. The lady immigration officer was actually nice and all smiles when she greeted him. She let me prepare myself by bringing out the documents with so that it will be easy for me to have access with it when she asked for it. Then she said that the interview will be of two parts. First part was verification of information, address, work, etc. This information was basically from the form we filled up and submitted. Second part, was about our relationship. From the time we met until during the interview. She let me tell like a bed time story, while she typed on her computer because as she explained to me she needed it for a transcript of my interview, like a narrative report. Anyway, while I was blabbing about our relationship, she will asked question in between which was relevant to prove that our relationship is genuine. For example, my husband is 18 y/o older than me. She asked me if it will be a problem in the future that I will always be younger than him. She also asked me if we have plans to have family. She also asked me since, I am not out with my family as a gay man, what will I tell them when I move to Canada. At this part of the interview, I should be feeling nervous and scared and panicking on how to answer. But, since what I had with my husband is so real and true. I replied to the immigration officer with all honesty. The only documents she asked was photos from our recent trips. My husband and I had been through a lot with all the waiting and upsetting and disappointments. But when the immigration officer said, I am ready to approved your application and issue you your visa and I can clear and put all the documents back into my bag. I was the happiest person in the world. And being a proud husband I even asked the immigration officer, if she would like to meet my husband and she said yes. So I went out of the interview room, my husband patiently waiting and very nervous as I walked toward him. I whispered to him that I am approved and I would like to meet him the immigration officer. So after the meeting we stepped out of the interview room, waiting for my passport and documents.

I have had read some interview experience done in Buffalo from this forum, most of decision was positive and some are not. So for all your lingering questions, whether age, religion, sex or race matters, it does not. What matter most is proving your relationship genuine. People might call us crazy for marrying too quickly, like after 4 months from the time we met online and a month and a half from the time we met in the flesh. They might actually think that it was just a marriage of convenience due to age difference. But when two people are deeply in love with each other and their willingness to resolve conflict and becomes interdependent along the way, CIC will definitely approved the application. We have been married for 13 months and I can't wait to land in Toronto next month. Cheers!

Have a good weekend everyone. I wish you all a positive response on your application :)

Those fake eCAS Tracker updates are going around today, I guess. I got one earlier today that just repeated the "Decision made" line that had already been there for over a week. I wonder what triggers -- wait. Just checked. My mailing address is back up. That's probably what caused the string of "fake" updates for others, too.
