Steps

1. Make looking for work a full time job. Devote 40 hours a week to this endeavor. Sometimes it takes luck to find a job, but you have to put yourself into the position to be lucky by putting in the legwork. Remember that "Chance favors the prepared mind" (Louis Pasteur).

2. Decide what you don't like about your current job and write it down. Read this list every morning. This will be a key motivator to look for a new job and it will set a criteria of what you want and don't want in your next job.

Hi Hmi,
I like this. Very informative. Thanks.
By the way, how are you? Been here for a month now. Still no job :-( but not giving up. Still trying.

3. Update your resume. Spell check it and have it read by at least 2 or 3 friends. Let them point out errors and fix the resume. Ask them to be constructive.

4. Boost your own confidence. Tell yourself getting the right job is a 4 to 6 months process ( it will keep you less frustrated if you don't get a job right away).

5. Post your resume on major career websites. See the external links for suggestions. Set up a search agent from these websites.

6. Make an application goal. Apply for a minimum number of jobs every day. For instance, you might choose to apply for 6 jobs a day which match your closest interests. If you can't find 6 jobs in your field, find a close match and apply.

7. Apply for jobs looking at the minimum requirements. Sometimes employers ask for unrealistic qualifications, however if you apply you might hear from them still as they realize they were asking too much.

8. Apply to same job or in a same company every few days. Employers like to see the same resume 3 to 4 times. It shows enthusiasm and motivation.

9. Network.

10. Be Desirable to a Recruiter

hope that helps,

hmisabpk

There are many mobile phone service providers, if you need cell phone plan please check links: (repeated)

If you are staying at basement apartment there will be signal problem, so Fido will be best plan.
http://www.fido.ca/web/page/portal/Fido/MonthlyPlans
Landline many service providers are providing the services, including internet connection and internet phone they are somehow cheap but, some need to sign contact, quality and service are vary company to company.
http://www.bell.ca/Home_Phone
http://www.rogers.com/web/Rogers.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=HPH_land
Many net phone / VoIP phone also there but quality..?? Like ... http://magicjackcanada.us/ http://www.vonage.ca/ ,
http://www.comwave.net/sign-up/1170-2/enhancedtri/?gclid=CNfJxs-Ds6wCFYXrKgodLBJIGw
http://www.telehop.com/homephone/ ,
http://www.yak.ca/ ,
http://www.bramatelecom.com/ ,
http://vintone.ca/Main/Homephone/homephone.htm ,
http://www.yesupnet.com/home-phone/
http://www.rangtel.ca/
http://www.torontotelecom.ca/
http://www.webtelecomm.com/home-phone-service-pricing-order/ , etc..
Some have the plan like mobilicity etc... add $ 20 unlimited to many contries including India, some home phone plans are $ 30/month unlimited to 60 countries.
But many people are using calling cards, value of $1 card will give you 120 – 140 minutes in week expiry, so if $ 4-5 cards will be sufficient to call every day. I am personally using them, good quality and service then why have to waste $20-30 CAD every month, while I can manage with $5 per month with my mobile phone plan? There are some very cool cars with no expiry and pin less features $ 5-6 per card.
Now days everyone has messenger, gtalk and sykpe that give you free calling features, lot of saving.

Hope that helps,

hmisabpk

I need your advice, my family is planning to land soon, planning to stay with a relative on the first few weeks. I still have work and did not resign, i plan to land only and go back to my work here in saudi arabia. Can I leave canada even before I receive my PR card? My wife and my daugther will stay in Canada. I am planning to stay only for a month,do you think there will be no problem? Do the immigration do spot checking on the address that I declared upon landing if I am still inside Canada when they send my PR card. I am also the principal applicant. Please advise?

Hi, toothfairy,

Yes you can leave Canada by next day (after completing SIN card). 1 month or less there is no problem. You can stay 2 years out of 5 year in Canada, still you can maintain your P.R requirements. No one will check you and no question will be asked as long as you meet the residency obligation.

You can leave your family with relatives and go back to your work peacefully. Canada is the one of safest country in the world for kids and families.
"Permanent residents must meet a residency obligation. This means they must live in Canada for at least 730 days (two years) in any five-year period or they can lose their status. These 730 days do not have to be consecutive." https://eservicesak.cic.gc.ca/rescalc/resCalcStartNew.do?&lang=en http://www.settlement.org/sys/faqs_detail.asp?faq_id=4000181
Hope that helps, :)
