@Huron - I had some Canadian documents legalized for use in Mexico which was easily accomplished through the Mexican embassy in Toronto. But we hadn't thought about doing the same in reverse for our marriage certificate. I guess if we need to have it legalized for use in Canada we can take it to the Mexican embassy for help with that? In any case, it is probably a good idea for you to have it legalized now if you can so it is done just "in case". Not sure about the procedure for doing that in Mexico. I remember my husband having to have his photos re-taken for the constancia (big surprise!) but I can't remember why. I'll try to remember to ask him.

In the earlier part of this year it seemed as though all the "straightforward" cases were getting the PPR within a 30 day window of dropping off the police reports. No idea if that timeframe is still accurate as I haven't seen any new posts on that topic lately. I'm curious to know if there has generally been a big slowdown on that front as well.

Our medicals expire in a few weeks, but our police reports are good for awhile yet given that it took us so long to get them. The thought of even more delays for a medical re-do is exasperating -- but it is what it is. I wonder if we should start making arrangements to do the medical again now to save some time or just wait out their instructions???

@huron
1. Go to a place where they take profesional pictures I recomend this one in our city GALERY STUDIO tel 36297866 they are in av manuel clouthier, when I took my pictures for all the process and as well for a new Canadian Passport of my husban when he was here in Mexico with me in the embassy they give us the information of this place, so you can be 100% sure are the correct ones, just tell them its for the PGR and you need them tamaño filiacion and they know what to do
2. YES go to the papeleria and fill 3 forms SAT 5 in maquina de escribir, cause one is for you, one for the bank, and one for the PGR (MAKE SURE OF DONT HAVE ANY MISTAKES, O "TACHADURAS" CAUSE WHEN I WENT TO THE BANK THEY MAKE ME CAME BACK TO MY HOUSE AND DO IT AGAIN )
3. I legalize my documents (acta de nacimiento, matrimonio y antecedentes penales estatales) before to send them in the aplication because i thought it was requiered, but now I know it wasn´t however in order to legalize the documents you need to go with a PERITO autorizado by the embassy of Canada to traslate the documents first , they givme the list I can provide it to you, and once its traslate it you need to make an appoiment in the embassy and the Perito needs to go with you in order to sign a paper they charge you 960 pesos to legalize the documents, doesnt matter if is 1, 2 or 3 they charge you the same
4. I dont have the answer of that one I have the same doubt?¡

This is all so interesting. Thank you Mrandmrsromero and Wooera for you fast response. (@Woerra were your pictures square or oval? Did the let you take your cell phone in the PGR when you did the antecedents penales?)

Like so many things with the whole immigration procedure the legalization of documents question is sooo unclear, slow and involved and not cheap.

We were married in Mexico City so I was going to do the whole legalization process of the Acta de Matrimonio when doing the antecedents penales. (We have to travel to Mexico City)

From what I have been able to see on line at the Canadian Embassy website,( http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/mexico-mexique/consul/leg-jur.aspx?view=d) in speaking with an official translator in Mexico City that has done some work for me before, and various Mexican websites (http://portal2.sre.gob.mx/dgpme/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=14&Itemid=50&limit=1&limitstart=1) I will need to do the following.

1. Obtain a certified copy of the Marriage Certificate $ 52 Peso
2. Take Acta to Consejería Jurídica y servicios Legales for signature and seal $ 67 Pesos
3. Then Take Act to SEGOB for Signature and seal $ 378 Pesos
4. Ten Take acta to SRE $ 215 Pesos
5. Then take Acta to the Canadian Embassy for Signature and seal $ 965 Pesos
6. Then get Acta Translated 200 Pesos X 4 $ 800 Pesos
[tr][td]
Total $ 2477 Pesos

I was also told by the translator that he would have to go to the Embassy with me and the translations, he charges an additional $1000 Pesos for this. So now we are up to $3477 Pesos or about $ 275 Dollars…… (Plus travel meals and lodging in Mexico City for a few days)

Now seeing as all these Mexican and Canadian government office have such CONVENIENT hours I will need to spend a couple of days in Mexico City just to do steps 1 to 5 then wait and do step 6 and then see when the translator is available to go to the Embassy.

1 Registro Civil open 8 hrs to 18 hrs
2 Receives doc from 9hrs to 11hrs gives them back to you between 13:30 hrs and 14:30 hrs
3 Receives docs from 9 hrs to 13 hrs only (so impossible to do the same day, who knows when they give the doc back to you)
4 was not able to find the hours of operation
5 Canadian Embassy only receives doc from 9hrs to 10:30 hrs (yes a hole hour and a half window)
6 Translation 2 working days
7 Translator escort to Embassy depends on the schedule of the translator

Given the costs and additional running around we are wondering if I will every need this document. (It will be a lot easier to get the document while we are here in Mexico rather than once we are in Canada)

So what do you think, do you know of anyone that has ever needed a certified / legalized / officially translated copy of their Mexican marriage certificate in Canada?

I wonder why Canada is not part of the Hague treaty for Apostles, it would make things so much easier (and cheaper)

@ Huron: wow those fees are just ridiculous. Aside from a divorce situation or death of a spouse, I can't really think of any circumstances where a marriage certificate is needed to be produced in Canada, and even then I've never heard of legalization being required. Translation requirement? Maybe, but I believe that can easily be done in Canada. We didn't have our Mexican marriage certificate legalized so I suppose we will just have to deal with that on an as needed basis. I'm doubtful it will be a problem, but then again ... you never know! If you decided to do the legalization, let us know how the process goes.

@ Huron: the pictures for the PGR are oval, at least thats what I was told and what I did. Once you are in the PGR building YES you can take your cellphone with you. You need the SAT 5 form (triplicada)filled out with "maquina de escribir" and the payment must be done before you go to Mexico city. Also on the PGR website says the cost is 116.10 pesos but I was told you cant use cents when using SAT 5 form, so I payed 117.00 pesos and they were fine with it.

regarding to the FBI report I mailed my aplication to the FBI on Aug 6th and they havent even charged the 18US Dlls fee to my credit card, I am guessing it´s gonna take couple weeks more for them to process it and a couple more for the letter to arrive to me, because I tryed to get a "guia prepagada" with fedex, DHL and UPS and I was told that with international shipemnts they cant do that, only with national shipments, so that means FBI mails you back the report with the traditional mail service wich takes so much longer and also there is a high risk to get letters lost.

Hello everybody!!

I have a question I hope you can help me, I was requested for an interview but in the letter the sent me it say that only if it requested my partner must be in the interview, but the point is that in that letter her name doesn't appear anywhere, so does this means that I´m the only one who should be present to the interview??

Thank you very much before hand.

@ Jamesah, you are the only one needed for the interview, IF your partner would´ve been needed as well it woul´ve been specified to him/her with a letter at his/her address/email account. so no worrys, it´s just for you, just make sure to be at least 15 minutes before the interview at the embassy.
good luck

Went to Mexico City for the Antecedents Penales. Thank you to everyone for their advice, and prompt responses to my doubts, it was a great help all went well. Also decided to start the legalization process for the acta de matrimonio, so got the first step of that done also. In addition the PGR took the prints for the FBI check and will be sending that off to the USA via FedEx on Monday.

Big congrats to Wooera (are you mailing you passport or going in person?)

@MC1234 The time lines for CL Spouses and Conjugal should be the same but as you probably know no 2 cases are the same. Are you applying inland or outland?
