hi everyone

I have a question, I'm through a sponsorship process and after my wife got approved as sponsor I was requested for some documents like RCMP clearance schedule A update, and PGR clearance and they gave me 4 months, well doing the finger prints clearance takes a looong time about 3 months and a half, so i didnt process the PGR certificate because i was wating for the RCMP certificate to arrive, so when i went to the PGR here in Mexico i was told that the PGR request letter issued by the Canadian embassy has a 3 months expiry so now i need a new one in order to get my PGR certificate.

i didnt know that i could process the PGR certificate and send it, with out the RCMP clearance. i thougth that i had to send in 1 shot all the papers (my mistake there)

so i would like to know if someone made the same mistake as me, and if the embassy would have the will to give me a new PGR request letter, Knowing that " i didnt process the PGR because i was wating for the RCMP " could be a not valid reason for them.

Send the Embassy a case specific enquiry (or reply to their latest e-mail) and explain the situation. While I haven't heard of this situation before, you shouldn't have an issue - don't worry about it. To further put your mind at ease, when the letters are lost, for example they reissue them. I'd offer to pick it up if you are in the D.F. or send them a pre-paid courier label (if you create it online, pdf it and attach the label to your initial e-mail to avoid extra back and forth traffic).

Hi Jorgew,

This hasn't happened to me and I am by no means an expert, but I would say that you don't really have any other option other than contacting the embassy and explaining your situation. Also maybe you weren't totally wrong, because I also received an additional documents request and it said to send all the documents at once (not separately) to avoid delays.

You can contact them through a case specific enquiry: https://dmp-portal.cic.gc.ca/enquiries-renseignements/case-cas-eng.aspx?mission=mexico

I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on what a background verification might entail and how long it might take. I contacted the embassy after sending them an FBI certificate and updated schedule A and this was part of their response:

"Background checks or further investigation are necessary in relation with the processing of your application.

The Immigration and Refugee Protection Act requires that each person applying for a visa to Canada be screened in many different ways, including health, security and criminality.

Often, delays in the processing of an application are out of our control as some processing steps require coordination with external authorities.

Our office will contact you as soon as all verifications are completed, or as soon as more information, documents or an interview are required."

My file has been "in process" with "medical results received" since the beginning of November, I thought maybe after i sent them the FBI clearance I would hear something but I'm just languishing in these background verifications and wonder how long they might take.

My wife received her visa on February 20. We are planning on returning to Canada in March. Are there are any things we need to know during the landing process?

Assuming she is moving on this trip (ie planning to stay in Canada at least 12 months), make sure you take a B4/B4A listing all the belongings she intends to import now or in the future. The officers will appreciate if she takes 2 copies so they don't need to make one there.

As she lands, they will also ask her for the address where they should send the PR Card so make sure she knows it or has it easily available (with postal code, etc).

Other than that, enjoy! It tends to be simple - they will double check the info on the CoPR, stamp it, and she's done :)

In the PDF file sent to us from David Cohen's office, it said this:

You must also bring with you enough money to cover living expenses such as rent, food, clothing and transportation for a six‐month period. You may be asked to show proof of your funds.

Number of Family Members
Funds Required (in Canadian dollars)
1
$11,115
2
$13,837
3
$17,011
4
$20,654
5
$23,425
6
$26,419
7 or more
$29,414

Does this apply to family class sponsorships?

Proof of funds applies to federal skilled worker applicants. See http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/funds.asp.

Thanks. Do we need to provide any translated copies of documents like our marriage certificate? We already provided this during the application process. What about a letter of reference from my wife’s former employer? Also, my stepson will be travelling with us to land in Canada, as well. Do we need his school records? I keep reading about the requirement for translated documents. Does this apply in family sponsorship? Thanks again.

On my stepson's CPR, under sponsor information, it lists my UCI, DOB, address, name and relationship. Beside relationship, it says spouse. Obviously, I am my wife's spouse, not my stepson's. Does it says spouse beside relationship on his CPR because the category I applied for PR for them is the spousal sponsorship category, or is this an error?

The fact that it's a family class application would be reflected under "application details" in the "category" row (FC1 = family class 1). You can either have the Embassy of Canada in Mexico correct this or have the Border Officer correct it when you land.

Thanks. One other question. On the COPRs of my wife and stepson, it lists my wife's medical "valid to" date as April 4, 2014 and my stepson's medical "valid to" date as April 2, 2014. They both had the medicals done on April 2, 2013, so I am not clear as to why there is a discrepancy of two days, especially considering that their visas both expire on April 2, 2014. Can we get this corrected when we land?
