It's up to you....your taking more of a risk letting person x get your documents, and DHL are opening them anyway when there is an issue......which happens waaaaaay more than you think!

Person X who receives my wife's passport by mistake has the same issue with someone else receiving theirs. The DHL employee has no stake in the game. Nothing to lose and everything to gain if he/she is connected to the wrong kind of people.
DHL's job is to deliver the item as addressed and nothing more. How does anyone know that there is any errors at all? Maybe DHL is just claiming that there is an error so they can get access to passport numbers. Pretty easy to find people interested in passport numbers. How many emails have you received claiming you have won $1000000000USD?

This doesn't come as a surprise to me. I think I remember a CBC report on the lack of transparency within the Harper Government that touched on this.

They asked for your guys passport. If they were denying you they wouldn't have bothered.

This may be a first but I agree with Dojan. DHL employees are not authorized to open mail. You have no idea who is opening it and it doesn't take much for the info in a passport to get photocopied and the person's identity to be stolen. I would never ask anyone at Canada Post to open my mail and we have some pretty stringent security checks.

I would say it is safer. If my wife (for example) gets your wife's docs while expecting her own, she would get worried about HER papers. She would most likely call the embassy and do what they embassy told them to do with your wife's papers. Why? Because if she F000ks with your wife's papers maybe the embassy won't get her HER papers.

There is a self-interest involved here that DHL doesn't have. A DHL employee self interest might be more along the lines of "hey, how can I make a little something for myself from this" at the worst. And at the best they will do what the recipient would have done anyway. So why take the added risk?
