Jason Kenny today announced for 2012, the quota allotted for live-in caregivers-turned-permanent residents slashed by almost half to 9,000 .So expect more delay and longer waiting time
so what does it mean to us who has pending applications for PR?does it mean that our spouses and dependents is no longer allowed to come over?or is this changes only applicable to the newcomers of live-in caregivers?this doesn't really make sense, us who has pending applications should not be affected with all the changes...this is really confusing and really really frustrating...

Lets extend our patience yours might on the way as ur Apr applicant however, i think this change will affect both PR applicants especially w/dependants and candidates under LCP because of limited capacity on PRs and the inflow of reducing newcomer caregivers. Actually we all see what CICs donig to us right now is already planed before Mr Kennys announcement. CIC accepts less caregivers from abroad by delaying processing time and holding OWP on PR applicants. Unfortunately, it will never be ceased unless there are any changes. What can we do? We all keep unemployed after applying for OWP and PR or whatever therefore, all Canadian families complain about lack of caregivers? I bet we all cant do that and CIC knows we cant. Isn it sad? I wanna see many caregivers around Vancouver area next thursday meeting w/ immigration critic Don Davis. No matter single or married applicant lets fight for our OWP at least.

While the number of live-in caregivers in the backlog is relatively small at 28,771, it is hard
to understand why there is a need for such a program at all particularly given that 40 per of
them come to work for relatives in Canada, and the rest presumably work for upper income
people who should be able to afford to pay for their own expensive at-home child care
without government assistance.
 And once live-in-caregivers acquire permanent residence status after two years, they
are entitled to bring in their family who are not required to meet the usual selection
criteria.
 While I don’t have the data, it would be my guess that immigrants coming into
Canada as a result of this program probably have very low incomes and high poverty
rates.

Do you guys have any idea about the number 28,771?Does it have all the applicants which are in Step 1 Initial Assessment and Step 2 Final Decision?

The applications backlog only provides data as of December 31, 2010.
So I think that number doesn't include the applicants who applied for OWP and PR in 2011.

@strikenannies when did you submit your application for PR?

here in montreal i tried to coordinate with the AAFQ and im glad to share with you that this coming November 19 caregivers from montreal will gather in different shopping mall across montreal to promote the Live-in Caregiver situation and will ask people to sign a letter petition regarding the long processing times of the Immigration. this petition letter will need at least 1000 signatures as the main goal and we will send it to CIC. hopfully this might work.

im hoping also in some provinces will do the same.
