Friends,

How cold is Canada?. I read and was told that Canada is very cold country and it will be very difficult for people from Asian Countries like India. Half of the year weather will be extreme cold with no Sun, and probably the exception is BC and Vancouver. I would like to hear the real truth from seniors and experienced people.

How bad is the weather?.

How difficult it is for the people from countries like to India to get adjusted to the weather.

During winter do we need to sit in home except office hours?

Is there any entertainment possible in Winter?

It is cold in Canada, but it is beautiful . Each season has it is own beauty, summer is sometimes hot and humid, but really enjoyable, the fall season is colorful and charming (cool), spring is cool , mild and wonderful, winter ..well...snow +white+cold, but when you are here in Canada you will know how to deal with it like all others living here. People who freeze to death are mostly those who are homeless, or who spent the night out in the bitter cold snow. Sometimes in Winter you feel as if your face is lifeless and that your fingers are freezing if you stay out for long time, but as I mentioned, you will know how to live with it. Just get your visa, and the rest does not matter!!!!

When you think of the Arctic, think of Canada. If the thoughts of Arctic reminds of cold, then it's extremely cold in Canada.

But joking aside, in winter times few people freeze to death. But that shouldn't discourage you. Have many pple die in India of heat wave?

Hi,

How cold is Canada?. I read and was told that Canada is very cold country and it will be very difficult for people from Asian Countries like India. Half of the year weather will be extreme cold with no Sun, and probably the exception is BC and Vancouver. I would like to hear the real truth from seniors and experienced people.

Depends on where you want to go. Further north would be cold. You would be surprised that the sun is out but it would still be cold. I am Asian but I survived the winter which a lot of people are saying is really bad last year.

How bad is the weather?.

How difficult it is for the people from countries like to India to get adjusted to the weather.

You can always layer your clothes when you go out; and wear boots and gloves/mitts. A bit difficult to move though because you would be so big =). Inside the house, the heaters are on so you "shed" all your extra clothing;) Driving would be a bit tricky. Also you'd need to shovel your driveway, and sometimes dig your car out =))).

During winter do we need to sit in home except office hours?

No!!!! Except in blizzards or storm. You can go to the malls, walk in the park.

Is there any entertainment possible in Winter?

Hmmmmm. we just went for walks in the parks. Canada is a beautiful country.

ITtttttttttsssssssssssss ccccccccccccccccccoooooooooooooooooooooooooooolllllllllllllllllllllllldddddddddd!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have lived in cold states like michigan, utah for 4 years.. (It snows upto 15 feet ) and temp drops down to -20 Degree C some times. We dont die, we have heater (heated car, heated house etc )

After a single winter you will adjust and start enjoying the snow and cold weather...

So dont worry.. weather is the least of your worry... (Using paper tissues in toilets is the 2nd major problem for people from sub-continent -:) )

LIke ADA mentioned you will get used to it in a year or two. you have heater every where in car, bus, tube, office, malls and ofcourse home. You dont need to shut yourself inside during snow, you have lot of outdoor options like ice hockey, snow mobile, skiing, hot swimming pool, etc.

If it's really cold and you like to stay inside, you can go to the malls. The biggest mall in Canada is in Edmonton and offers for example ice skating, casino, waterpark and more. If you bundle up, you don't feel the cold as much and maybe you will find that you enjoy winter sports like skiing or snowmobiling. In Vancouver, it doesn't get that cold and doesn't snow much so maybe that's where you should go if you are worried about it.

If you stay outside too long when it is very cold without the proper clothes, you can get frostbite. A few years ago, it was in the news in Edmonton that a young woman who came home after a night out had found herself locked out. She did not want to wake the neigbours so she waited outside for 45 minutes for somebody else to come home. She lost all her fingers. Maybe if she would have stuck her hands in her armpits, she could have avoided this but she was probably drunk and didn´t realize it.
