Id say, buy something just to get by, and do all the winter shopping from Edmonton, I bought many winter clothes here in Saudi Arabia before I went
only to find out, they were all very expensive and still not as per Canadian winter standard, so I ended up buying more
are you decided to move to Edmonton? I myself am now thinking about moving to Edmonton

All the best!
Yes, I am planning to go to Edmonton probably in September.

Winter Clothes Availability In Karachi:
Sadar Panorama Center, Opposite Rex Center. Famous Shop: Usmania
Light House: 1: Usmania 2: Rehmania

I visited Panorama center, prices are affordable.
Were there cloths available to survive Edmonton's winter?

This is very helpful! I appreciate. Can you share your thoughts on what are the things one must bring to Edmonton, considering coming from Pakistan with one 1.5 years daughter?
First of all check with your airline for how much weight you can carry in your baggage I think it's not much and you can only fit clothings and a few things within your weight limit..

You should bring appropriate clothing, bring some bed sheets (queen size), towels, and a big sauce pan (to cook large meals like biryani) as its quite expensive here at the desi stores and Canadian stores don't have that kind of large saucepans.. you will find tawa, table ware, quilts, pillows etc at low prices at Walmart so don't stuff your baggage with these things.

All kind of spices national and shan masalay are available here so u dont need to bring them along

NOC is 3152. There are a number reasons for Edmonton including job opportunities, lowest unemployment rate, cost of living, low tax compare to BC and Ontario, a few acquaintances in Edmonton, no need to wait for 3 months for health care facilities, small city, nice people etc.

Thanks, will you be required to do for courses for your profession ?
I'm an SAP professional, I like everything about Alberta/Edmonton, all the things you have rightly pointed out
but I was little concerned about jobs in my profession, so Im trying to collect as much info. as i could before
i make a decision

Thanks

you can keep a track of Edmonton's weather: http://weather.gc.ca/city/pages/ab-50_metric_e.html

in summer max temp reaches to 30°C which is not too high. for winter you can get sweaters, and warm clothes but buy outerwear from here as these are best for Edmonton's winter temperature.

it depends on your needs but i'll try my best to cover everything,

_ clothing according to weather except for outerwear (jackets, kids snow pants, scarfs etc)
_ quilt covers, twin/queen/king size, according to your family size
_ Few Bed sheets
_ medicines for Kids and adults such as Pain Killers, Diarrhea and vomiting, cough and cold (syrups must not be more than 100 ml), ointments like hydro cortisone etc, and something for mouth ulcer like kenalog (i don't know if these are the correct spelling but its available in Pakistan, it has steroids and hence its not suitable for kids, kids may use teething gels instead), small first aid kit with a few bandages, and any other medication that someone uses on regular basis because medical cards can take some time.
_ A big saucepan for desi people :)
_ A few Gillette Razor blade cartridges as they are expensive here

well that's all i can remember ..

Sonea may be this question seem odd to you, but I am concerned with this...what is the trend of dressing in Edmonton???I mean if we wear our national dresses like shalwar kameez (especially females), and go to work, will people look down upon us???will it look odd or abnormal to work in our traditional outfit rather than western dresses???
