I mainly asked just to be sure you would not face any troubles were you a PR and out of Canada for that time. As a PR you would be required to stay in Canada other than short trips/vacations.

Did you include written documentation on your arrangements to return to Canada? Such as living arrangements/work/schooling ect?

Have you had any contact from CIC or the embassy other than the sponsor approval?

With regards to the age difference, it can really go either way. Did you address it in your application? It is a red flag for sure.

You were very lucky that your process took so fast. I think your situation looked very clear for them.
Since the approval I had no contact from CIC and we still wait until statement about receiving of medical will appear on online status.
About age difference we explained in letter that my husband found out about it after 6 monts because from the appearance we look the same age. We have known each other more than 3 years and have been living together more than one an a half year so I think they should not question if our relation is genuine.
I wrote long letter about our plans with details upon coming back to Canada and even included letter from my uncle with job offer for my husband in his company.
So maybe all will be ok, the worst is time. I have some plan regarding my stay in Canada and staying here i only waste my time but what I can do, we don't want to live separately. I hope all will be finished this year.

I do not think it was clear to them really, as we did get a call for an interview. Also, I received our GCMS notes and from them also can say that the VO was skeptical of our relationship(and some details of it). I think it is best not to assume they see or don't see anything.

I hope it all gets settled for you in a timely manor.

The notes are basically the information the VO has on the initial application. As they do work on the file they add things (medicals/security/requests for information ect.). When I first ordered them the only thing new was finding the results of the medical. This time I had ordered them to see if anything had been done. The interview call came not even 2 weeks later so I hadn't had them in time to see what reasons were listed for the interview. However I knew our case so I knew what they would be. The notes are really only useful if you get them in time for an interview or to see how/if the file is progressing. They also document any in coming and or out going communication between applicant/sponsor and the VO. It was 22 pages of rambling codes the first time around and 37 the second, with only about 6 pages of "useful" information.

I received the notes yesterday Tad late.. The information regarding the interview is on them as well as the results of it. I already knew we were approved, but it's still good to see!


I had hoped that other things regarding our relationship would "cancel out" the red flags but that was not the case. Age, religion, cultural differences, lack of a "typical" Egyptian wedding were the prominent reasons.

Try not to worry, it's easier said than done, I know. But in all reality it will only add stress to your relationship/life, and I am sure like anyone else you have enough of that already.

Hey lil mama, when did you send in ur request for Caips... I sent mine quite awhile ago and I havent received anything... they didnt even cash my cheque!!!

Our application was received Dec 1, 2012, and I got an e-mail March 1, 2013, saying I was approved to sponsor my husband. Does that mean my file is now at the Cairo office? Also, we gave my husband's medical report with the initial application. Should we consider doing it again in a year as a precaution so as not to be held up, potentially, in the future? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there and welcome,

You can find out where your file is at by calling the Ottawa processing center. As for your medical report, don't renew it. They will contact you if they need you to resubmit. In some cases they will extend your medical.

Hi all,

Just wanted to send an update about our case... It's now been six weeks since we were told we were "approved" at my husband's interview. We were told they would request his passport within 2-3 weeks. The day after the interview, his ECAS changed to "In Process." We didn't hear anything from the VO until today, when they sent him an email requesting he re-do his medical! Six weeks and now this!!!! Why didn't they do as they did with CanJen and make this request the day after the interview? We are anticipating even more delays and stress now... We're going to the embassy tomorrow to demand to speak to someone about these totally arbitrary delays (we emailed the VO three weeks ago about the lack of PPR, but of course they never answered). His medical expired in Jan but they extended it; now it seems as though they purposefully waited until the extension expired to re-request the medical. Have no idea what game they're playing. We're going to tell them he has to get his visa before his student vacation period ends in September, because that's the only time the military will let him travel.

I guess I'm wondering whether you think they are definitely planning to give him the visa, if they're re-requesting the medical, or if there's a possibility they will still reject him at the end of this whole process.. I know I said we were told verbally that he was approved, but honestly I don't trust anything out of their mouths unless it's in writing...

Also, CanJen and MadeInCanada, did you have your bad experiences with Dr Magda at Anglo-American? She was fine with us the first time we went, and I was thinking of going back there again. Want to get the medical done and sent before June 30!!!!

Last, MadeInCanada, where did you read that the extension is good for 15 months? We want to try to argue that it should be longer, since they supposedly made their decision May 12... Arg.

p.s. Also, a couple of people have asked me about the last Cairo spreadsheet that I used to maintain; unfortunately Google updated it documents software, and the spreadsheet became impossible for me to update. Also, all the timeline info started to become increasingly irrelevant as the VO radically changed its processing times (when I first applied in March 2012, the average timeline was consistently 7-8 months - my how times have changed!). If anyone else wants to start a new spreadsheet, please feel free.
