Hey guys,

I have a question here. My husband would like to apply for an LMO because he has a job offer. We just sent in our file for inland spousal sponsorship a few days ago. Does anyone recommend that we go down this route? Someone told me that it does not really look good on your file if you apply for an LMO because the whole reason for spousal sponsorship is that you are telling the government that you can take care of your spouse financially. I heard that it does not look good to have this on your file. I can take care of my spouse financially and he also has his own money from back home.

Any thoughts on this?

He can go ahead with the LMO - it's not going to cause any problems with the sponsorship application.

However keep in mind that your husband can't actually apply for an LMO. His employer has to do this.

Hi scylla,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, we are aware that the employer has to file this but we also heard that when you have an inland app in, it can give the IO any reason to deny the sponsorship. I was told to not take the chance.

Do they want to make it that difficult for us to live our lives? We want to buy property and start our lives.

Because the government wants to make sure it won't be losing any money in case the applicant goes on welfare. If the applicant is actually already employed, contributing both to his family and Canada itself, and obviously adjusting well - all the better. Go ahead and get the LMO.

(And if you're still not convinced, think about all the couples who met and applied with no problem while the foreign partner was already working or studying in Canada :) )
