Sponsoring my Korean wife for permanent residency

Hey guys, I haven't posted here in awhile. Still waiting. CIC says our background checks are still being processed. Something is screwed up somewhere. I'm back in Canada now without the Mrs. Does anyone have experience getting the Access to Information from CIC? Did you have to get...

Sponsoring my Korean wife for permanent residency

Finally, a response from Manila: Hopefully it's done by February but apparently, if the application is close to being completed, they have the option to use what is on file if a medical check has passed its expiry date (1-2 months allowance from what I've been told).

Another week, another week with nothing.

Sponsoring my Korean wife for permanent residency

From what I have gathered from other members' posts, Koreans are not required to send their passport to Manila. Instead, once the application is approved, the Confirmation of Permanent Residence letter will be sent to your mailing address and that's what your wife will need to enter Canada...

So same deal, she just needs to have a return ticket.

Sponsoring my Korean wife for permanent residency

Alright, so, I've been trying to get a handle on this whole situation with me going to Canada first in February and my wife coming some time next summer (hopefully with the PR application complete). It's an understatement to say that this is the most stressful situation that I have experienced...

Yeah, I have looked into the GCMS notes. Have to pay to get them right? And they take weeks to get.

Sponsoring my Korean wife for permanent residency

Two months ago, I called CIC to find out what was going on and they said I'd been approved for sponsorship but I had never received an email or letter from them. The attendant said they had put my representative's email address in as main contact (my mom) but she didn't receive anything either...

Sponsoring my Korean wife for permanent residency

When you guys say you send a shipment of stuff to Canada, was it like furniture and larger things? Is there anything against sending boxes of stuff if we're not taking any furniture back with us? Also, with my wife coming to Canada separately after me, are there any documents or whatnot that...

Sponsoring my Korean wife for permanent residency

Trust me, crazy does not begin to describe the feeling I have but my hands are tied. There's almost nothing I can do. Thanks for the well wishes guys.

Sponsoring my Korean wife for permanent residency

That's right. As I've posted here many times before ... we sent our application, sponsorship was approved, Seoul IO asked for an RCMP criminal record check for me (which took 5 months and which I speculate was so that they wouldn't have to process our application there before closing) and our...

Sponsoring my Korean wife for permanent residency

Decided to take the leap and head back to Canada without knowing when the PR is going to be done. I'm gonna head home first, set up camp and have my wife come over next summer. Planet ticket bought, the countdown is officially on.

This sort of makes me feel good that my wife and I don't have much to take with us. Whatever we have can fit in small boxes and be set in spurts.

Thanks Rob! So basically, the COPR comes and we go to Immigration at the US border and they handle it there.

After pushing my MP's office a little more, I finally got an answer on the status of our application: Basically she said that she has gotten the CIC to "[bring] forward" our file and they are about to start on the background checks which she says could take a few months to a year. Has anybody...

Sponsoring my Korean wife for permanent residency

Just got word from my MP's office that they called CIC and our application has been moved forward but they're doing our background checks. Our medical is still good til feb 2014.

I haven't seen the spreadsheet ... I'm a little slow on the uptake on that one. Where would I find it? (Or is that the estimated processing times table on the website?) I don't think the spreadsheet would really apply to me anymore anyway lol

Sorry to hear about your struggles! Hope it gets resolved for you quickly, sooner rather than later. Update for me at the start of this week: still nothing and not likely to change this week. Been trying to figure out when exactly our 14 month processing time is done. Initially we were...

Sponsoring my Korean wife for permanent residency

Thanks for the advice guys! Who would I contact to get the GCMS notes? I've already been in touch with the MP's office and basically they said there's nothing they can or will do right now because our file is still within the 14 month processing time. I told them that the CIC admitted and...
