Sorry, only just saw this. I called CIC and the person I spoke to said it was "probably" a yes, because they hadn't asked anything else. He confirmed that Ottawa would be doing the paperwork in terms of sending things out. He couldn't give any sort of idea how long it would be.

I can't really get a straight answer about implied status. I think that only applies if I have some other sort of visa, like a temporary work one. If I then apply to extend that, and it runs out before I get an answer, I'm then on implied status. That said, I'm not an expert and I really, really wouldn't recommend that you make any decisions based on what I've said.

Unfortunately I don't believe DM in ECAS for outland applicants would qualify as implied status. @xrubanx - If a tourist visa or visitor status was due to expire after you received DM but before you received your COPR, you would still want to apply to extend the visitor status, because your husband would be out of status if it expired before he landed as a PR. (It's a little different for inland applications but I am assuming you are outland)

Thanks for this. We are outland, and if I had to do it all over again, I would have applied inland to get a work visa.

Okay I spoke with immigration. Very likely that PR is granted as everything has passed. We do not have implied status. He advised that we plan a trip to the States prior to tourist visas expiring in early Dec. He said just to cross into the States and come back into Canada. He said our other option was to do the paperwork, but that it would be not as straight-forward. Problem is that we are 15 hours north of the border, I work full time, and we have a 2yo- so crossing the border def isn't straight forward either.

Problem is that we are 15 hours north of the border, I work full time, and we have a 2yo- so crossing the border def isn't straight forward either.

It will cost $100 to submit online and there is only one form to fill out. That will be cheaper and easier than crossing the border for your particular situation. Also, it doesn't even matter if you fill the form out with complete effort and tons of additional documentation because they're taking 3+ months to process extensions right now and you get implied status as soon as you submit it. That will more than cover you until the COPR is issued. Don't bother with the border crossing, in this case (as usual) IRCC call center folks are giving horrible advice.

Congrats! I'm guessing a lot of other Mississauga applicants must have also gotten their PPR since I heard CIC sends out these emails in batches.

Yup. January applicant from Sweden. Ordered GCMC notes that were generated Sep 20, doesn't look like they have really touched my file much since document request mid Feb. Everything says NOT STARTED. ECAS only says Application received. MyCIC status is the same as it has been since Feb, We are reviewing whether you meet the eligibility requirements.
Doesn't really look like I'm going to be processed within 12 months right now...

Guess I'm now one of the lucky (or unlucky) ones to have my application sent to Mississauga instead of the expected Sydney VO.

I really was hoping to get COPR by Christmas 2017 however after reading this forum, I now realise it is wishful thinking.

Question - I was hoping to just arrive as a Visitor who I believe are allowed to stay for up to 90 days, whilst I wait for a decision to made. Has anyone else done this? Or would it be easier just to stay in Australia where I currently live until I get approval.

Whenever you cross the border you need to prove strong ties to your home country. If you show a return ticket and have strong ties there should not be an issue but it can always get tricky, always up to the border guy.

I would not show a return ticket of 90 days, I would have something much shorter as in order to convince them of a "vacation"

Whenever you cross the border you need to satisfy the CBSA officer of your strong ties to home country and not overstaying so it's always more of a less a risk you are taking. I'd say at this point you file *something*, pay the 100 and hopefully it will take them 3 months to figure out the application is good or not. By then you will likely have landed. According to several on this forum you can land being out of status but I wouldn't advise that.

My wife was going to sponsor me a couple of years ago, but then we decided to move back to my home state...but now we've decided to move back to Canada. Anywho, when we applied, we didn't want to be apart while we we're waiting. So I went to the Canadian border (from the U.S side) and asked them if I can stay while we are waiting on the sponsorship. They gave me a temporary resident visa for 6 months and I didn't have to pay anything.
