as bad as it sounds, I really think that the reduction in the parent/grandparent class is reasonable as well as asking for the bond to help offset the medical costs. The spousal and children class is not affected according to my reading the article...its just the parent/grandparent class...that's what I am referring to, not the whole family class...

Unfortunately I am from an area where we NEED skilled immigrants, as well as the investors and entrepreneurs to be a sustainable community in the next 10 years.

The people in this community are so closed minded to having immigrants come, "they come to take our jobs and sit on welfare" is the mentality around here. If only people around here and in general around Canada would open their minds and eyes to the benefits that come along with the investors, entrepreneurs, and yes skilled workers, we could be in a much better situation.

They have already cut off people wanting to invest in Canada, and to start businesses in Canada this year. That means that all the people who have applied to help our economy, now have to wait until July 2012 in order for their applications to be reviewed again...In my honest opinion, these are the classes that need to be increased for the overall benefit of Canada!!!

I know this is likely going to get a negative discussion going, but if you do your research you will see what I am talking about....

I agree with you Stumpedmom the parents and grandparents are never were and should never be a priority the other classes should be as they can contribute to the economy more

This gave me one of those "Dude. Wait... what??" kind of moments:

"He wants Canada to accept another 100,000 immigrants every year, arguing a per capita measurement doesn't make sense because the country has so much space."

Is Mr. Davies actually referring to PHYSICAL space? Canada is huge, yes, but a large portion is just not feasible for settlement...

I understand what you are saying, and until I started working where I work and doing the research I have to, I would have thought that was a crazy idea. Now that I have had to do the research, and understand the fact that the investors and entrepreneurs have to invest as much as they do into the economy I really think that yes those classes NEED to be upped....

I totally agree with everything you've posted here. My mind was somewhat blown when I read that they pinched the investors and entrepreneurs, etc. Its completely counter-intuitive to building a strong local and national economy, especially considering the state of the global economy right now!

I was actually quite surprised at just how much the "they took our jerbs!" mentality exists up here. Canada is the last place I would have expected to see it. It's really sad.

That's pretty much everywhere right now, actually. Recently the Labour Minister here in Jamaica had to step into a dispute between a Chinese engineering company and local contractors, as people were picketing the company and claiming they were hiring "foreigners" instead of local labour.

It totally blew my mind when I found out how much these classes of immigrants have to invest in our Country in order to get approved. And then the CIC limits the amount of applications they will receive...like duh...as my son says....handslap on forehead....this is not brain science here...let the ones with the money in....cut the refugees and the parent and grandparent classes if you have to cut somewhere and take the fricken caps off the ones that want to come and bring their money here and invest it here and that want to bring jobs to us here!!!

Well, I actually agree with it.

And it's because too many people are taking advantage of the system. Many countries have even longer waits, and limit numbers even more.

I know that people want to be with their families and want a better life. I don't blame them for trying to help out their families. But we are not a big country. We certainly need people here who are skilled and can help society. But unless families can guarantee that their parents are healthy and can earn a living, or they can support them for 10 years then I don't see why they should be allowed to be here. I was born here and I'm having a hard time making ends meet myself. How can our system support these people?

In that little survey they had awhile back I did say they should cut the number of grandparents/parents and refugees they let into the country. Why? Well obviously skilled workers are trained and have the know how and usually the experience to do a job that contributes to society. Entrepreneurs and investors invest in the economy and create more jobs, enough said. And spouses can work, even if they aren't specifically skilled, they can go back to school and better themselves and the community around them. Parents and grandparents usually don't work and usually just use up resources like the health system and refugees usually aren't skilled and take lots of resources to integrate into a society where they have no family or friends to help them out.
