    Changing Name

Hi Everyone! So, I've landed and finally sorted out all of my everythings. I have my PR card, license, etc etc and have settled in nicely. I don't think I will be travelling outside of Canada again until June and am really keen to finally assume my married name. It seems like all I have to...

    Thread for outland Buffalo applicants!

Hi Mala, My brother in law is Irish and did this. They lived in Toronto when he applied but moved back to Dublin as things were taking so long. He came back to land, but they stayed on in Ireland for I believe about another 2 years.

CIC Eliminates Counterfoils for Approved PRs from Visa Exempt Countries

I imagine that you'd still have to provide them somehow with certain information and they would issue/send you your COPR to land. You wouldn't have to wait for your PR card to get your SIN as you would still have your COPR document.

Address changes - I tried several times with no answer, and no change on ecas. Not only was I moving (from the Caribbean to the US , so its not like I could get it forwarded) but they also had it completely wrong. Several people have suggested mailing it to them. I didn't end up doing that so I...

    Undated photos as relationship evidence

None of my pictures were dated. I put them into a Word document, about 2 - 3 per page each with a little caption about what and where.

Trish - I got my Visa from Buffalo and landed by myself. My husband was at work in a wine cellar and had no cell service so I couldn't have called him even if I needed to. It wasn't at all an issue, they didn't even ask where he was. NO stress. Its all nearly over! :D

Preparing resume for first Canadian job

I towards the end of my cover letter something along the lines of: "I have my own reliable transportation, am available for work full time and am eligible for work in Canada" as all my work history is US and Caribbean. I didn't put this on my first few resumes I sent out and did not get called...

    Thread for outland Buffalo applicants!

This is what we did. We were planning on a July wedding and we were planning a September move to Canada as my husband was starting school. When we realized the time involved in processing applications, we almost immediately had a quick courtroom ceremony and didn't tell anyone except my parents...

American citizen marrying a Canadian and moving to Canada

Hey Oregon, Welcome. You've found the right place! First off, try not to "understand" how long the application can take. You will find nobody understands. I got through in exactly 6 months, but some people have gotten by in less and some much, much more for no apparent reason. Just prepare for...

Ahhhhahahaha. Look at something on their system? They barely even looked at the letter I was told I didn't need before they sent me out the door. I have had two licenses over the past 3 years, one in KS and one in NE - both of which are meant to be exempt from needing an abstract (like...

Hi Bargeld, Lucky you! Where in Ontario are you? When I called Drive Test they said the same thing and that I didn't need any letters or a record from my state, however upon visiting my local office they said that I did and were really not nice about it. I can still exchange my DL with no tests...

Hmmm, thanks for the input! I'll call some insurance places and see what's the deal. When I first called the Ontario MOT to figure out what I had to do they suggested I get my license first as I couldn't get Ontario insurance without it. Turns out (from my experience thus far), Ontario MOT phone...

I flew on AA from Chicago to Toronto before I had my PR card and they didn't ask for it. And speak of the devil, I got it in the mail today less than 2 months after landing. Its a pretty cool looking id card, I must admit! So I've landed, settled, started working, got my PR card, now if only I...

Hi Maddy, Welcome! Not sure of your financial situation, but have you ever considered going to live with him and wait out the rest of your application? Many of us here, including myself, have done this without major issues. Its just too difficult to say anything in regards to a timeline...

OK I am totally confused. I havent worked in the states in several years and have never owed any taxes there. Started working in Canada a few months ago and will file both CA and US taxes for 2011, as that is what I am supposed to do. (have to back file for the past few years I lived in the...

    Weird Situation

Hi Rattles, You can certainly get the process started from Australia. I would definitely use her Vancouver address - does she have anyone that can check it while she is still in Aus? I've discovered its much harder to change it once its been submitted, I tried several times to change mine and...
