Hello all

I've been granted a visa to work in Canada but had to be rehabilitated for a minor assault charge 9 years ago. My question is will this charge still hold me back when applying in canada? Can the government deem me rehabilitated only for a company to refuse me?

Do I even need to declare it on applications

Thanks in advance

If asked to declare, you have to be truthful. This can affect your chances of working with vulnerable people or where you are in contact with people.

The reason I ask is because in the UK I am not legally required to declare any 'spent' convictions. Is there a similar law in Canada?

In the UK, you have to declare your convictions if you apply for a job dealing with data, vulnerable people or in the airport.

To be honest out of all the jobs I have worked for in Canada, none have asked if I have any previous convictions apart from the ones at the airport.
