Hello,

I am writing on behalf of my wife. She is a British citizen and holds a Working Holiday visa (IEC) valid for 2 years.

I am a European citizen and I am not eligible for a Working Holiday visa due to my age. We also have a child who will travel with us. I am aware that my child and I can enter Canada on an eTA for up to one year.

What I am mainly interested in is whether, if my wife finds and works in Canada as a Supervisor Cleaner (or Cleaning Supervisor / Housekeeping Supervisor), this would be sufficient for me (her husband) to apply for an open work permit.

According to information I found on the internet, it should be sufficient, but I would rather verify this officially with IRCC, as the information online keeps changing.

If possible, could you also advise who we can contact for more detailed guidance on this matter?

Thank you for your help.

When did she start the job and when does her work permit expire after starting her job? She needs job letter and paystubs. Housekeeping supervisor is NOC 62024 (TEER 2) and not on the eligible list for SOWP. She wants to be working in a TEER 0 or 1, or eligible TEER 2 or 3 list.

Make sure you and your child have health insurance. You can stay up to 6 months, and need to apply and pay for visitor record to stay longer with valid reasons and being able to afford to stay. If denied, you leave.

She has not started working yet. Her visa is valid for 24 months. We are looking for an easy-to-find job, which is why the Supervisor Cleaner / Housekeeping Supervisor position came to mind. Are you sure that this occupation is not eligible for SOWP?

Look on the IRCC SOWP site. It is not considered a high skilled TEER 2 job. She needs a TEER 0 or 1 job or high skilled TEER 2 or 3 in trades, healthcare, construction etc. She can read the list.

Would add you and your son will have to try to enter as visitors and your entry is not guaranteed especially if it appears as though you are trying to move to Canada. Your wife should really come to Canada and see if she can find a job that would make you eligible for an SOWP and that you have proof of enough funds to support your family. You wouldn’t want to leave your home, job, etc. without knowing you’d be able to move to Canada as well. What if you are denied entry at the airport do you have a home and job to return to?
