hello,
I'm having trouble understanding everything I'm reading through on the immigration page.
Do I need to work in Canada for a period of time before applying for permanent residency?

Thanks for your help.

Okay, so what do I need for permanent residency then? I recently took the English test and I'm waiting for my results in that. I have a family that would like me to nanny for them in Ontario.

If someone could just text me on the matter, that would be much easier. Thank you..

Do you have the necessary training or work experience to qualify for a live-in caregiver (nanny) work permit? You and your potential employer must go through several steps first such as them applying for LMIA and you having your education/experience assessed.

After working with a work permit as caregiver in Canada for 2 years, you can then apply for PR.

I don't think I do. So I do need to work for 2 years before applying for permanent residency?
So apply for a work permit now?

If you aren't qualified as a live-in caregiver, then you will not be able to get a work permit to work as a nanny for that family.

The 2 years work is just to get PR under live-in caregiver program. If you have necessary education/skilled work experience in other qualifying professions, you can apply through express entry program and don't need work experience in Canada first.

So what's my next move?
I just want to move to Canada.
I do plan on studying and working in Canada. I was hoping to be a permanent resident before studying though so I could pay domestic tuition, but would a study permit be my only other way to immigrate?

I just have my associates degree in Early Childhood Education but I haven't worked full time in the past few years or whatever the requirement is on the website..

As long as your program was at least six months of full time study and you completed the program within the last three years, then you qualify for a live in caregiver work permit. Your employer will need to give you a job offer AND also obtain an approved LMIA.

If you come under a live-in caregiver work permit, that does NOT give you authorization to study. To go to school you'd need to apply for a study visa separately, and then most likely give up your work permit as you probably couldn't study and be a live-in caregiver at the same time. Also simply studying in Canada in no way guarantees you can apply for PR after. There are specific immigration streams you'll need to research to see the best path for study/work experience in order to apply for PR later on. As I mentioned above, the live-in caregiver program is 1 such way to apply for PR after 2 years of work in Canada.

You will also need to pay international student tuition fees for any school you go to.
