Hello,

I have a question regarding the Physical Presence Calculator.

I have a visitor visa that was valid from 2014 to 2024, and I visited Canada for 35 days in 2015. However, I did not visit Canada during my 5-year eligibility period before applying for citizenship, even though my visitor visa remained valid during part of that period.

Could you please clarify how I should answer the following question?

"During your 5-year eligibility period, did you have a valid temporary resident status before becoming a permanent resident?"

Should I answer Yes or No in my situation?

My question is whether having a valid visitor visa during the eligibility period, even without entering Canada, counts as having valid temporary resident status.

Thank you for your guidance.

It should be No as you're not physically present in Canada from 2021-2026. A resident status (temporary or permanent) is only when you enter Canada legally and stay in the country for a period of time (measured in "day(s)"). This is just my interpretation and should not be taken as legal advice, as I am not an immigration attorney!
